That was a somewhat earlier episode, and he thought they would die. I tend to think that was the main reason he said that. Of course, he still does like Spongebob, probably, it just depends. Spongebob can be annoying 
Guys, I appericiate the fact that your posting on my topic and I respect your opinions, but you guys are missing the point. Don't blame yourselves, though. It's my fault for not being clear enough. I'm not saying that Squidward can't get annoyed and angry when Spongebob starts goofing around. All I'm saying is that Squidward should appreiciate the nice things Spongebob does for him(like he used to do), despite the way he acts even if he doesn't thank Spongebob to his face. If your not a Family Matters fan, then what I'm about to say will be meaningless. Remember the way that Steve always got on Carl's nerves? Destroying his house and giving him stress? Despite that, Carl still thought Steve as a great human being because of all the wonderful things Steve did for him and his family. That's what I'm talking about. Being annoyed when someone's pestering you is normal. But not being appreciative for things people do for you makes you worse than them.

Squidward is one of my favourite characters, And people like him more when he calls spongebob a barnacle head!
While I love Squidward and his wit, I have to agree with you there AfroBoy. I think that the new writers aren't seeing who Squidward really is. he's supposed to hate SB and Pat, but still sort of like them. Now, he just hates them.
However...they are getting more and more annoying with each episode, so Squidward does have a right to be more furious with them, so it goes either way.
Sometimes after the Movie hes been nice, in 2 Faces of Squidward, he acteed very nice to SpongeBob and they looked like friends, in Waiting, he fixed the toy, but in some like KBBB, he didn't want SpongeBobs help, PS: How did he reacted when Spongebob's staute made Squilliam's melt??
