I mean, when the "Squidward Live!" scene happened, the audience was pretty rude to him. I mean, they threw tomatoes from the salad bar at him when he did techno-pop, and was quietbefore the classical piece beforehand. Now would it be mutual for the "golden rule" if they treated him kindly that he wouldn't be a bored, rude cashier to the Krusty Krab customers? AllSquidward wanted was to do what he dreamed of, and he was booed off the stage, complete with cartoons' cliche tomato routine.

The point is, as the the says: In retrospect, did Squidward deserve to be booed in "Culture Shock"?

Or was all the fish rude to him?

I always wondered this, too. Personally, I thought the dance he did was pretty cool, so no, I don't think he deserved to be booed. I just think it was one of those things were the writers put it in there as a way to make us laugh: Squidward gets booed for his dance, yet SpongeBob gets a standing ovation just for mopping.
