    Umm... Maybe his windpipe (if he has one) got closed and his lungs (or gills?) filled up with water. Or his gills (if he has gills....) got dirty. Fish can drown if their gills get relaly dirty. Maybe that's how?

    If people consider drowning as like suffocating in water or w/e than maybe drowning for them is being out of the water and in air. Think about it...
