Has any one else been really disappointed with SpongeBob recently, after reading some of the plots from upcoming episodes like "Not Normal" and "Gone" i've really looked forward to them yet am constantly disappointed by poor plots, a lack of jokes and dumbed down characters. It seems as though the writers are having some good ideas yet just don't deliver like they used to which is surely a sign of SpongBob's declining quality. What do you think?

No way! SpongeBob is still awesome. Sure it's not AS GOOD as the first three seasons, but it's still better then most shows on TV today.

No. If SpongeBob was getting worse, it wouldn't be on the Nielsen ratings every week.

If you think Spongebob has gone downhill, then you aren't a true Spongebob fan, yes, some episodes aren't as great as others, but as a whole, Spongebob hasn't gone downhill at all

I don't think that's a fair comment there are lot's of reviews in the review section for SpongeBob suggesting the same thing. I'm not saying i don't like the newer episodes but their are aspects of it that i think have changed, for example SpongeBob's voice and the humor becoming more childish. Maybe i did exaggerate a bit with the really disappointed remark though

Season 6 has been great to me. I feel as if SpongeBob SquarePants going downhill is just "something of the past".

That's not true. If someone loved the first three season but felt that the following seasons weren't the same, then they are still true fans.

Totally Agree i think season 6 did improve upon season 5 especially with "House fancy" and "Nautical Novice" so i guess your right.

I agree that season 5 wasn't good, but if we are currently in season 7 and just out of season 6 and that season was great then that means that the show it's not downhill anymore, it means it have gone a little uphill, right? And well, I still love the show, so I'm not too disappointed.

Is it as good as the first couple of seasons? No. Does it still possess enough of quality that fans should keep tuning in? Yes.

It was very good at first, then the post movie episodes were downhill, but with season 6 it went uphill, not quite yet to the quality of the first 3, but it's still good and may keep improving.

Yeah, I gotta agree, although Season 4 wasn't too terrible, and at least this show is recovering, unlike Family Guy.

There have been many times in season 4 where I've felt that SpongeBob has lost its touch by a long shot, but I think it recently made a comeback. Sure, I think that we can all agree that the newer episodes definetely do not live up to the golden episodes from seasons 1-3, but I think they keep getting better. I think Nickelodeon is doing a great job at hiring the right people for the righting staff of SB (they don't want their highest-rating show to decline in quality either). You can really tell that the writers on the current seasons are really giving it an above-honest effort, and we should not attack them. The show is still watchable and making extraordinary waves in the ratings. That's proof that SpongeBob isn't going downhill. I'm going to stick with my pledge to keep watching every new episode that come out.

I voted for "Not as good, but still worth watching."

It's plain to see that seasons 4-7 are distinctly different in style from seasons 1-3. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to you. Changes in the development and progression of a show over time are completely normal. Heck, it changed from Season 1 to Season 2, and from Season 2 to Season 3 as well. The thing that sets apart the change that came from Seasons 4 and on was the fact that the show was no longer being shaped and developed by the same minds, so instead of the change feeling natural and normal, it feels alienating.

In Season 4, it seemed that the new writers were fully aware of the fact that they had big shoes to fill and tried their absolute best to emulate the style of the old writers. I feel that on the whole, this effort paid off. Season 4 was not terrible, in my opinion; it was a step down from Season 3, but it was decent, and still had quite a few winners, like Krusty Towers and Wishing You Well. At this point, I was thinking, okay. The new writers just need some time to adjust to their position as SpongeBob writers, they're bound to improve once they get the hang of it.

    But I was wrong.

I haven't seen all of the episodes in Seasons 5, but I saw enough. I saw enough to know that I was starting to lose faith in the show. In Season 5, it took on a completely different style, so much unlike the SpongeBob that I was proud to be a fan of back at the turn of the millenium. Every episode seemed to have some corny gimmick, cheap jokes, annoying new characters that took attention away from our favorites, plots that had no substance, and just a complete absence of that SpongeBob spirit. I always felt that the confidence of the old writing team shined in their episodes----it was as if the episodes called out to you, saying, "You know we're funny. You know you wanna laugh." However, the message I get from these new episodes is, "We know we're not funny, but please laugh. Please?"

Season 6 and 7, I've only seen a few episodes, and most of them were disappointments with a few good ones here and there. Mostly, for me, it varies. Sometimes, I'll see an episode that's so hilarious it makes me crack a smile of defeat and admit, "Okay, THAT was funny!" And other times, I'll see an episode that's so horribly written it actually makes me shudder. But still, I'll keep watching in hopes of seeing some of those rare good ones that make me feel like all is not lost. But I'm not going to go out of my way to watch and record every single episode like I did back in the golden era. I have this thing where I have to have unlimited access to every bit of canon material about Squidward that exists (it's a fangirl thing ), but some episodes are just so unSpongeBoby that they don't even seem canon to me. Oh well. Like I said, I've largely been disappointed, and I'm going to be honest about that, but I still have hope for a better future, if not a decent episode here and there.

Somebody told me that Nick fired Stephen Hillenburg after the Spongebob movie, but that's not true. They didn't fire him; he chose to quit, probably to move on to other things, which is a pretty stupid reason if you ask me

It's not as good but it's still worth watching.

Overall, Spongebob's had a bit of a downfall. It started after the movie... it came up again than fell way down. I'm a little disappointed at how the newer episodes are turning out but that doesn't mean that I'm going to stop tuning in. Spongebob's always been one of my favorite shows and it still is.

God, I'm a idiot! I forgot. Stephen Hillenburg didn't quit, he became the executive producer and still is. So, yeah, he quit being the director, but he didn't quit all together. So, he's technically still taking part in the Spongebob episode production, which is one reason why the show is still tolerable nowadays.
