There is proof of female airbenders! If you watched the episode tonight, it showed a woman in the Eastern Air Temple, who is likely an airbender!

    . . . Even though she's partly bald

I don't think she was partly bald. Although she did seem old...

I think she just shaved her hair near her forehead so she wouldn't have any bangs and the tatoo could be seen more clearly than with the hair.

yeah, there were 2 temples for males and 2 for females, in this episode they show a flashback of Aang visiting a female temple, this shows females and males nomads had a closer relationship that we thought!! And yeah the arrow means she was a master airbender.

There was already proof of female airbenders. In "The Avatar State" they showed a female Avatar native to airbending.

i can't remember when it was said but i'm sure that she was the last airbender before Aang! i think that's what her fans were for. they are like Aang's staff, she had those because she was originally just an airbender and those were what she used to help her airbend! but i could be wrong!

Not trying to be mean, but Avatar Kyoshi was definitely an Earthbender. She was able to airbend only because she was the Avatar. And like Dogrox said she was right after the waterbender and??right before the firebender??when they were in line in "The Avatar State" and remember the Avatar cycle is water, earth, fire, and air.

I thought only women were at the eastern and western temples, but Aang and some other airbender boys were seen there in the flashbacks..

I think they were there just to get their bisons. Maybe they breed them there?

Was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how the fire nation??they got to the eastern air temple, isn't that the furthest place from the fire nation, they would have had to march right across the earth kingdom, or sail around the earth kingdom to end up??behind it.

or sail across the ocean, assuming their world is round.

Usually I would come back with something, but I've always thought something like this would happen. . .

Uh, why wouldn't they be? It would be a bit sexist if the avatar could only be male.

Yeah it'd definitely be sexist, but the reason why it's kind of surprising is because that means the Avatar is not tied to a specific sex. Only his spirit/soul stays the same over different lifetimes.
