Katara has been working on waterbending for much of her life and managed to find her own way of doing things. Many of the moves Katara used in her fight with Pakku ("The Waterbending Master" chapter) were not things she could have picked up from that waterbending scroll she stole ("The Waterbending Scroll" chapter). Toph had to find her own way of doing things, too, since her dad didn't want her to do anything he thought might be too difficult for her. Katara has more in common with Toph than with Pakku's "regular" students. |
I remember in the commentary during "The Waterbending Master" that Katara's style was like that of a street fighter - passionate but unrefined. I don't see why so many people are disbelieving of her skill. Ever heard of the term prodigy? Like Azula with firebending.
