Okay been out hunting on the internet trying to find out when they will be releasing a female action figure for Avatar.?? Apparently Mattel has no plans to create a Katara OR Toph OR Azula OR Suki... should I go on?!?

When you read the descriptions on their site, they even point out that these toys are for BOYS and I quote:

"The Avatar Deluxe Battle Benders Assortment brings the Avatar characters to life and allows boys to recreate the bending combat they see on TV." From more than one toy.

"The Avatar Vehicle Assortment brings the vehicles and mutant creatures that boys see on the TV to life. Boys can play with Avatar Roku's Dragon or the Fire Nation Rhino and take their fantasy figure play to the next level." From the vehicles assortment.

Now I ask you... are they living in a cave??? Did they not see how one of the most in demand action figures for Teen Titans was the White Raven??? Did they not see how action figures of Starfire, Terra, and other Ravens sold?

Apparently, girls are not 'important' enough for them to make.?? C'mon!?? You could take that silly looking Aang figure in the water tribe clothing and simply change his head - instant Katara.?? They can make over 5 different Aangs, 3 different Sokkas and 3 different Zukos (at last count) but NOT ONE SINGLE FEMALE from the show!!!

Okay... this was just upsetting to me and who knows, if enough of us rally to request them, MAYBE just MAYBE we can change their mind.?? I guess you would begin with Nick.com.?? Here's the website for the Mattel Avatar toys: http://www.avatartoys.com/fp.aspx?st=10&e=avatarlanding??

done venting for??now - I guess all that's left to do is....

Yeah, that sucks. Avatar girls are better than boys (just watch the B2 finale and then tell me), they deserve an action figure more than them. And boys would buy them too... (right Slugg?)

Hummmm...I guess us boys do get all the advantages. But I still don't get why they didn't put female action figures. I'm sure guys would also buy them. It's also not fair for them to assume that only boys will buy the toys. I'm sure that there is a ton of avatar fangirls that would buy a Zuko, Katara or Azula action figure. I guess they think they'll gain more profit with this marketing stragety, but it's not the best one, and hopefully they'll soon realize their error.

Dolls are for girls and action figures are for men.

But anyway just get a bunch of people to mail Mattel.

I got all those Raven ones, and the Starfire ones, and a few of Terra, Bumblebee...

I've also noticed they made some action figures of female characters for shows like:
Charmed (got Series 2 ), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, yada yada yada....

Didn't they [merchandise providers for these shows] make a few for shows like Family Guy, Simpsons, and some anime (InuYasha has some of Kagome out if I recall right)

I was really hoping for a a figure of Katara from pretty much the beginning of the shows airing, and was rather disappointed to find she wasn't included in the line released in August. It might be nice to have some of Toph, Azula, Ty Lee, Suki, and even Mai to have 'work' alongside' the guy figures in the fight.?? I mean,?? Sokka's not exactly the brains of everything, and where'd the heart of the fight be without Azula??? Zuko's not a strong enough type to hold the burden alone.

Let's hope Mattel steps away a bit from the concept of Barbie being the only capable female role model and let more modern, and dimensional, characters make their way into the mainstream.

I totally agree! There is absolutely no reason why Mattel cannot create Katara, Suki and Azula 'action figures' as they are an intergal part of the Avatar storyline. We're hoping and praying??for a tea-loving Uncle Iroh action figure with recordings of Mako's voice too!

I think that this is really a??restrained yet idiotic marketing move on the part of Nickelodeon and not necessarily a sexist statement from Mattel.

In other words they are testing the mass receptivity to Avatar products first before adding new items. Case in point, the appaulingly lack of all things Avatar in comparison to SpongeBob products to buy on Nick.com.

Our 7-year-old son would be in domestic happyland if we could redo his room completely in Avatar stuff??but there are NO Avatar bedding sets or decor items to buy??but painfully there are like 10 different varieties of SpongeBob bedding sets.

We own??TWO sets of Avatar Season 1 DVDs (both the individual??DVDs and the compilation sets)--one for us (my husband and I) and one for our kids for their TV room. We also??own every single action figure, vehicle and role play item from avatartoys.com.??We have not been able to find the newest item 'Roku's Dragon with Roku' set on walmart.com, otherwise we would have that too.??(http://www.avatartoys.com/fp.aspx?st=10&e=avatarlanding)

Also??toywiz.com has??the 'Blue Spirit Zuko' (http://www.toywiz.com/atlabsz.html) and 'Water Vortex Aang' (http://www.toywiz.com/atlawva.html) action figures which haven't even been advertised on??avatartoys.com yet.

The point being that??my husband and I??LOVE??Avatar and so do our kids but we are adults with disposable incomes and are more than happy to purchase anything and everything Avatar. The only??problem is??Nickelodeon??won't make more stuff to??buy and we can't buy what they don't make.

We asked our 7-year-old if he would??have 'issues' with a??Katara 'action figure' and he said no because he would just??have Aang save??her or have her whip Sokka's butt in waterbending like??she did in 'Boy in the Iceberg.' The fact is Nickelodeon's reserved marketing tactics??of Avatar products??is not only frustrating for fans??but is also??very short-sighted in terms of stretching the limits of their own product profitability.

Avatar has earned the right to stand??among the Nickelodeon animated elite. It's??time they started marketing Avatar products accordingly.

The BIGGEST mistake Nickelodeon has made with Avatar is to CONSTANTLY misjudge the Avatar audience and thus their consumers with real purchasing power.??

Avatar??may have been intended for??boys 9-14 but the FACT is the Avatar fanbase??exceeds this demographic by leaps and bounds. Case in point: NO other Nickelodeon show has more than 10 independently-run fan websites which are actively hit every day. Adults and girls??are Avatar fans too! Our 13-year-old daughter wears Avatar t-shirts to school and??if you have a teenage daughter you know that??for??Avatar to have passed the teenage fashion-conscious litmus test it is??saying a great deal.??

If Nickelodeon was smart next Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa season??there would be infinitely more products to??buy for holiday gifts and hopefully next??Halloween there will be more costumes to choose from than just Aang like Katara, Suki and Azula for girls/teenagers.

As been said before by other people (In a different context for different things that is.)

Time, and time again, Nick will misjudge the power their viewers hold.

I play with Action Figures and I'm a girl... so I don't get that either. It's like when the people at nick says that Avatar is a boy show... majority of the people on here are in fact girls.

I totally agree with you PrimoNation!!! I like Teen Titans and I was happy that they had female action figures, but I hate it how some shows don't, like Avatar. It just shows you the world is sexist and that the companies need money. I don't think we can do anything.

Actually i think a lot more girls would be all over action figures if the stupid dolls are for girls action figures are for boys mentality changed by parents and marketers, MATTEL! I was wondering why I had only been seeing commercials about Aang & Zuko toys... C'mon! Plus the show is popular with girls included. I damn Mattel to hell with the punishment of watching Teletubbie reruns for eternity.

Seriously, we should do something. Petition seems best bet.

I played with action ficures when I was a kid. Tonly thing I ever did with Barbies was cut their hair and try to give them crazzy hairdos. That and put them in their barbie-car and send it down the stairs (my parents got mad about that).

People don't care about petitions. Specifically online ones. Just write them a ton of snail mall. Since snail mail has more value to it these days.
