The special water was thought to work howvever that was interupted and the water was used on Aang's wound. so we will never truly know if it would have worked. I do agree to the possibilty of the genetics theory you made about toph. She doesnt need to see in order to kick ass.

Well, the genes for, say, an optic nerve could be turned off. I don't think even the oasis water could turn inactive genes on. That could cause cancer an other such horrible genetic maladies. But to me, Toph looks like she has cataracts, and those aren't genetic, and I've never heard of anyone born with cataracts. But she could also have a problem ala Geordi LaForge (ST:TNG), and he was born with his blindness, and his eyes are also freaky and pale.

I really hope you aren't calling Toph's eyes freaky. I might have to take some offense.

I can only wonder why.

Didn't mean to offend, heck, I was Toph for Halloween. But her eyes are not the norm.

I think it's because she was born blind and it cannot be fixed. Besides, I don't think Toph would want her to because then she'd lose her amazing Earthbending skills. She wouldn't be able to see things with her feet

How would she lose her Earthbending skills?

All she does is feel vibrations with her feet! She'd probably use her eyes less anyway if she did have sight.

My point: Toph is awesome just the way she is.

To the creator.. Why doesn't Katara heal every FRIGGIN paralyzed person on the planet.. Like a user on this thread said.. Katara's not god..no way you can heal blindness.

1. Katara can't heal something that was never an injury to begin with. 2. Toph most likely won't want to be healed anyway, because she doesn't see her blindness as an actual problem. In fact if it weren't for her being blind, she might never have become a metal bender.

3. Toph has proven time and again that she can be bad@$$ without the ability of sight. 4. If Toph's blindness were healed, she would then be able to see with vibrations and her eyes, which would eliminate most if not all of her weaknesses. In other words, Toph would be virtually invicible, which would make her boring to watch in fights.

5. Her character would be ruined. Toph is amazing because she doesn't let her inability to see hold her back. She shows us that there are different ways of viewing the world.

My point: Toph is awesome just the way she is. /thread.

nearly everyone has given a theory of genetics(even me) and katara cant heal toph's blindness because she cant alter genes. also the whole idea of toph revolves around a blind defenseless-looking girl who can kick butt

Wow way too many posts to read so I'm just gonna say what I think. Toph was born blind so she must have recessive genes that mess up her eyes. It could be that she doesn't have the right pigment in her eyes to allow her to see which is why her eyes are colorless. I not really sure I'm not an expert on genetics. I think Katara can only heal physical damage as in make the cells rapidly divide thus healing the injury. With Toph however since what makes her blind is in her genes so Katara's healing has no effect. Even if she could heal Toph though I'm not sure she would want it. She's lived this way for a long time and ultimately it's made her stronger so I don't think she would change now.

As I said before just because you are bron with a problem doesn't mean it is due to genetics.
