I must say it is Aang. Lets see:

    • He found out he was the Avatar at a young age
    • No other kids would play with him
    • He had to leave the Southern Air Temple and Gyatso
    • He ran away, but got trapped in an iceberg for a century!
    • No one he knew from his previous life was alive except Bumi
    • Gyatso and all the other airbenders were extinct
    • Aang was the last airbender
    • He had a lot of expectation to live up to, not to mention a lot of criticism
    • A freaky prince and princess were after him, not to mention a monkey faced admiral and a one eyes cyclops!
    • Appa was separated from him
    • He died at Ba Sing Se!
    • Avatar State was gone
    • Katara refused to love him
    • He didn't want to kill the Phoenix King

    And much more

    SalKing2 has got completely it!

    1. Aang not being able to have a normal, easy childhood, starting at the young, in-experienced age of 12.

    2. Aang finding out that he is the last of his kind, and that everyone he had ever loved died in an ambush, done by people looking specifically for him.

    3. Waking up in a ball of ice, and finding out he's been frozen for 100 years.

4 And all the struggles we have seen him go threw in the series.

Kyoshi is a close second though.

    1. She lived for over 200 years, spending the majority of that time as the Avatar, protecting the world, and then was thought of as a killer when she died...

    Kuruk and Roku are tied.

Although I would put Kuruk above Roku, because Roku actually had a gret life with a bad end, but Kuruk lost the love of his life to Koh...

    ORLY?

Um... Yes. I just put in the second one cause its the title of the show!

    Well, my ranking is:

    1) Aang (reasons listed)
    2) Roku and Kuruk are tied
Roku was betrayed by his best friend and was killed by him. Kuruk's love was abducted by Koh
    3) Kyoshi
Not that tragic. Only one town thought of her as a murderder, right?

As well, Roku lived a fruitful life. He had a son, he had a wife. The only problem was how it ended.

Though Aang has had more crap to deal with than the other 3 combined, his story isn't tragic since he got a happy ending.

And having one little village accusing you of murder is hardly what I'd call tragic. The rest of the world propably worshipped Kyoshi after she dealt with that tyrant.

So I'd say it's a toss-up between having the love of your life stolen and having your best friend leave you for dead.

You guys are right... I suppose everyone can't love you right?

Well here is my new and improved ranking: It is pretty much what everyone else thinks but I'll write it anyway.

Aang - Doesn't need to be argued, he's 12 (112, but has been aware of his existence for 12 years) and all that has happend to him... But the end of his story is the happiest.

Kuruk - The woman he loved more than anything was abducted by a face stealing spirit, atleast Roku managed to grow old with his lover and marry her, without her being snatched away from him.

Roku - His best friend virtually is the reason for his death...

Kyoshi - Yeah, I suppose one village hating you (formerly) isn't that bad... Especially considering there is a village that worships you, and is named after you (I forgot about that)...

    I think it goes,

    1. Aang

Aang had to deal with finding out ALL his friends at the Air Temple were killed.

Not to mention he's the last of his kind.

    2. Kuruk

He lost the one women he loved.

    3. Roku

His best friend betrayed him, and left him for dead.

    4. Kyoshi

Only one town hates her, I really don't think that's so tragic.

Aang is first. All the reasons have been mentioned

2nd are Roku and Kuruk tied. Roku had a good life, but then his best friend betrayd him twice! And Sozin killed him in fact, and that started the war. That's sad. Kuruk lost the love of his life.

3rd Kyoshi. It's not that tragic. She saved the earth kindom. And only a small village filled with idiots thinks she is a murderer. I wouldn't bother that!

Roku, with a close second by Kuruk

    why?

Kuruk, he lost his wife, and lived with that pain, but some(not all of it) was caused by his arrogance in his early life, plus he is thought to have lived a full life

Roku, sure he had a wife and kids, but he got betrayed by his childhood friend, and died at 58, he probably should have lived at least 50 more years

Aang sure "had a lot of pain" right? but we have to remember that for him it has been only 12 years, and now he has the outlook of renovating the 4 nations, and looks like he will marry Katara, so his future looks highly promising

sometimes the obvious is a lie, and what it is not so obvious ends being the truth

Aang also went through losing a loved one, just like Kuruk. Aang lost his whole nation AND he knew it was his fault. That's tough. Roku simply had to deal with personal matters. Most of his life he was happy and care free. He married the woman of his dreams and lived through a time of peace. Sozin only showed up in his life once or twice in a negative way. Aang had to deal with Roku's mistake. Although Roku and Kuruk had personal problems, Aang had a lot more responsibility on his shoulders.

Aang has the harshest 1.5 to 2 yrs, and his harsh life started when he was told he was the Avatar at 12, was relatively safe till than; there is no question about that fact; but has a bright outlook for the future Roku was cut very short, don't be fooled by way he looked, he was only 58. and remember that Sozin lived for many years, and he was born same yr as Roku, and Roku had to basically lived with fact of his mistake until Aang resolved it

maybe we should say Kuruk, but we talking "storyline", which includes even after death, not who had the harshest mortal life, so I still say Roku until now(since Aang brought peace again)

Kuruk dilemma has not been solved yet

Kyoshi's were only minor, the "crime" was solved, and than the Dai Li mistake will probably be taken care of by the King of BSS and Aang now that the war is over
