sorry if there's already a thread like this, but :

what is she doing? it looks like some kind of sheild, but i didn't think firebenders had any kind of defense like that. what do you guys think? i used to think it was some kind of sheild, but if it was, then it would have blocked zuko's fire and maybe aang's air and katara's water, but it wouldn't have stopped rock if it was made of fire.

    any thoughts?

I thought it was just a distraction, cause after that move she dissaperead.
Also it's blue fire, im not sure but I think that type of fire is hot enough to bur rock, since it was spinning it also would have pushed it AWAY from Azula if not buring it completely.

no, distractions arer made to draw someone away from you. this was definately a defensive move. and i still think it's weird that the rocks didn't go through. you'd think if it was blue-hot fire then something would have happened when the rocks hit it. the water, air, and zuko's fire probably would have just evaporated, but you'd think something would have happened other than it just swirled away.

and i don't think it's very important either, i just thought it was interesting, since this was the first defensive move we've ever seen from a fire-bender.

No, Zuko used fire defensively when fighting Azula.

It just didn't have that much affect because Azula is a crazy good fighter.

This is not the first time we have seen this firebending move. This exact move was also done by Jeong Jeong in a season one episode, "The deserter". Jeong Jeong creates a swirling ball of fire when attacked by firebenders and disapears into the forest. This move was directly described by Admiral Zhao as a "distraction tactic". When Azula used this move she did the same thing. She created a swirling wall of defensive flame and escaped while they all thought she was trapped.
