I pay attention to the differences in animation, like a lot of people in this thread have said. I'll be waiting for a new episode, and when the animation starts, I'll know it was by a different studio. Sad, that I was that Avatarded.

    Ah, well.

Subtle movements when fighting that are clearly modeled after Sifu Kisu's reference tapes. Like the way Shin Fu sends his attack volley at Toph in "The Blind Bandit".

    I look for subtle animation.

Remember in "The Guru", when Azula said "It's terrible when you can't trust those closest to you." Mai and Ty Lee exchange glances. However, I don't think that meant they were planning anything, I just think it showed that even they weren't always so faithful.

But sometimes I listen to the dialogue too. Not so much what they say, but how they say it.

I do that too. Like in The Warriors of Kyoshi, Momo tries to hide his food when Sokka is near Lol

I tend to look at how the main characters act around each other (not just shipping-wise). And how i would act in that situation.

I do that too but more when waterbenders are fighting.

I also focus on the cabbage guy and wonder how he keeps his cabbages fresh whilst travelling.

I also tend to focus on the backgrounds, they have gotten significantly better in season 3. The backgrounds deserve much praise...

Maybe its just me, but does any1 like the end of season 2 animation way better than anything else? Idk y, but i just love the color in the The Drill, on. It just seems fuller and seems to attract the eye more.

Then again, it could b due tot he fact that i have watched pretty much all of Season 3 on the Internet due to lack of playing on the actual TV.

I really like S1 and S2 right now much more than S3 in terms of overall story evolvement. But maybe that's because I'm so excited about the finale it feels like it's taking forever to get through! LOL

The animation was good, but the characters designs looke weird. Sometimes their eyes were too far apart. Moi is my favorite animation company, and they continue to impress me.

Though I wonder what happened to DR Movie, the last episode they did was "The Guru". I liked JM animation in a lot of episode they did for S1 and some for S2. I'm going to be honest though, Aang looked weird with hair when he was animated by JM. No offense to them; maybe it was because they were so used to drawing Aang without hair, since they had been doing it since the beginning.

But Avatar is one of the few shows nowadays I can really appreciate the animation.

Who was it who did "DoBS" and who was it who did "WAT?" Loved the animation/drawing in the former, hated it in the latter.

    Huh. Interesting.

Actually I was thinking of part 2, but was part 1 someone else?

DoBS and WAT were really the only episodes they did where I was thinking "Ew.."

Though sometimes, as I said above somewhere, the characters had weirdly spaced eyes when animated by them. In DoBS and WAT, Aang has a freakin' huge upper lip!

But really, sometimes JM has beautiful animation. Especially S1 and early S2. Maybe their good animators when to Moi? Or were at DR Movie for a while, but then went to Moi. Either way, I understand how hard it is to crank out all these episode in 9 months.

In fact, I commend on what they do do. I'm always in awe of good traditional animation, especially since it's so hard to find now.

The high-quality animation and superior epic storyline are like 2/3 of the reason to watch the show and become a diehard fan in the first place imo.

The rest is purely due to Sokka's sarcastic wit.

Toph's eyes. When she was first introduced, they were green(pale, but definitely green). But in some later episodes, they're just flat grey. That bugs me. I always liked the "cloudy" green look. The flat grey eyes bother me because then she looks like any other blind character, but if there's green there, everyone knows she's from the Earth Kingdom. I don't know, this sounds so wrong, but I think blind people deserve some color to their eyes, lol.

Yeah. But Sokka's animation seems to always be the best. I can't remember the name of the person who animates him sometimes, but that animation fits so well with Jack's acting.

I was sort of interested in Toph's animation after Zuko burned her feet and she was trying to get away. The animation was unusually fluid; it looked weird, but it was kind of cool.

And Katara's animation when she PMSes like mad at Zuko, was pretty good. She probably threatened to kill the animators if they screwed up that scene. I really wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. XD

You know what I never noticed that change but now that you mention it I just realized a lot of fanart features Toph with a greenish hue to her eyes. That's a very cool observation.
