The most serious threat, the avatar, he sent his children to deal with (first Zuko, then Azula). He sits in at War Meetings, but doesn't seem to contribute anything at all. He's usually seen sitting on his throne behind a wall of fire, but besides that, he doesn't do anything at all! Apparently, he will upgrade his status to Pheinoex Lord, and get a new spiffy costume. But even with that, he still doesn't seem to do anything. This is pretty pathetic since he is the leader of the Fire Nation and symbol for the "dark side". Aang's goal is to defeat the Fire Lord. What will this accomplish, since he doesn't do anything or is actively involved in the war in any way? Azula is more of a threat than him! Even evil Zuko was more of a threat than him! |
the fire lord still does have to approve of the general's orders' during a war most probably. also he brainwashes the fire nation people and he is a highly skilled firebender |
Not sure about the highly skilled bender stuff. All we've really seen him do is bend lightning, which Azula can also do. And his son easily redirected it. His power is equal to his children. And don't be so sure about approving generals' orders. Zhao had devised a plan himself for killing the Moon Spirit on the North Pole, which the Fire Lord may or may not have known about. He seemed to be working on his own, which makes me think he did not attempt to get permission. Also, the Fire Lord's children, who are on the most important mission of all (catching the Avatar), have not EVER sent report or asked for permission to do ANYTHING. Everything they did, they did on their own. And like I've said before, they've failed over and over again, and the Fire Lord shows no interest whatsoever. |
As far as bending goes you must consider several things:
1) Lighting is not something everyone can do. We've seen only three people, as far as I can remember, doing that. It's almost like metalbending (I say almost because in metalbending we've only seen Toph do that) in which it takes a lot of skill to master.
2) Ozai's bigger and size matters here (comparison Aand raw power wise, combat wise... that's a different story as Zuko showed)
3) He took half of the time Azula takes... and he did 2 instead of one. That must take some skill.
So yeah, taking that into account he really is a powerful bender. Now, as for everything else.... I'm not sure.
