It's hard to tell what is an advanced technique for airbending. There's only one left, what do you compare against? We've only seen maybe 5 airbenders in action. Most used simple things that Aang uses a lot.

I'd have to guess the air cocoon that Aang used when he got stuck in the iceberg and towards the end of the Avatar State might be one. The after image/solid air technique he used against Zuko in Crossroads of Destiny might be one too. The air scooter is rare.

well, first of all, I'd like to give my guesses.
sub-Earth: Glass Bending (it is made of sand, just like ice melted into water)
sub-Air: Sound bending (I really see possibility for this prospect. Sound is just vibrations on the air, it would be useful to keep the FireLord from hearing you sneak up behind him, and to be able to deafen him while you are unaffected)
the real question I have that might better answer the sub-bending question is this: If the Moon enhances water bending, the sun/meteor enhances fire bending, what enhances earth and air bending?
I have no idea about the air amplifier but for earth... THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE!!!

Hummm I don't know if there could be one, you've got less scope with air, I would have said other gases but Roku seems unable to do this in TAATFL so maybe there isn't one, the air nomads were the most peaceful after all, and even if there were Aang would have to rediscover it on his own.
Something that bugged me though was if air benders can control and move the air, and fire benders draw their power from their breath why doesn't Aang just push all the air away and create a vacuum in fights? Just a pet peeve of mine.

Calling it "sub bending" makes it sound like something else. Each of these "sub bending" things is just the element being used a different way than the norm. I'd say a way different from the norm is amplifying/nulifying sound waves by controlling air density...

Somehow this seems to be more sciencey than any Avatar discussion should be... My contributions: Earth is probably both metalbending and glass bending. Both make sense. Water is both bloodbending and healing. Fire is lightning and lava (which should be earthbending but since firebenders can somehow control lava...)

Air is a lot tougher to figure out. I'm going to refer to the original Avatar magazine for this one, and this will probably sound really stupid to most of you. On the Air characters page in AvaMag #1, the Spirit World is included. The Air Nomads were supposed to be the most spiritual of all the benders, so maybe the ability to see and speak directly to spirits? It makes a lot more sense to me than it will for the rest of you. I also agree with the sound/vacuum ideas.
