In the Southern Air Temple Aang goes into the Avatar State. When he does, these temples lite up:

    Southern Air Temple

    Avatar Roku's Temple

    Kyoshi's Shrine

Also, a temple lites up that we can tell is in a water tribe. But it's not in the South Pole, as we saw the lone village there, and it looks nothing like what we saw in the North Pole. And it isn't in a deserted or destroyed place, since there are people there. Is it just in a part of the North Pole we've never seen, or was it overlooked by the creators? Or could it be in a part of the world we've never seen before?

MarioMario, you are a complete idiot, as well as some things I can't say on here.

On topic: I would say that the Water Temple is somewhere else in the North Pole or even somewhere else entirely. Kinda like how Roku's Temple was on a random island. I'm assuming that the sages who "worship"/serve the Avatar are similar across the Nations. They seem like they are meant to be removed from society at large, so as to be more committed to the Avatar. Having the Water Temple smack dab in the Middle of the North Pole city-thingy would kinda defeat that purpose. Just my 2 cents.

Katara's place IS NOT THE ONLY VILLAGE IN THE SOUTH

the temple can just as easily be in the south pole area as somewhere in the North area

You would be right, EXCEPT that the Fire Nation raided the entire South Pole and took all the benders. I would say that all Sages are benders. If they aren't, then I would say yes, it could have just as easily been the South Pole.

if avatar roku's temple is ran by the fire sages which can access some parts with firebending maybe the natural opposite of fire which is water can open some parts of the temple with waterbending and there are NO MORE waterbenders in the southern tribe and the only logical explanation is the avatar water temple is on the northern tribe which the previous waterbending avatar;avatar kuruk was born

O.k, time to take this way too seriously. Everyone ready?

Several important things can be seen in this picture. Bear in mind that this is taking place during the evening. The Gaang has been at the southern air temple all day, and the light has started to fade. It is dusk, so therefore the sun will be in the west.

We can see the ocean in the background, so if this is the northern water tribe the ocean will be to the south, if it is the southern then it will be to the north. There is also the possibility that it is some ice outcropping with a body of water in the wrong direction, but we'll ignore that.

Now look at the iceberg in the background to the right. It's left side is clearly lit up, and not just from the temple's glow. That means that the left of this picture is west. Therefore the top of the picture is north.

Since we can see the ocean, and the ocean is to the north, we can conclude that this picture shows the south pole.

The only problem is that the animators might have messed up. But if not, I wonder how far this temple is from the Water siblings' villiage. As Sokka said, "it's not exactly a cultural hub."

first off, why was this necroed? seoncdly, it's probably not at a pole. similar to crescent island, the avatar's (this is probably kuruk's the most recent ater tribe avatar) probably all have a temple where they go to learn. roku went to his temple to learn how to control the avatar state.

i think it is in the south pole since the creators wouldn't show the north pole just yet... and why is this important?

OR the templcould be on the other side of the world where it is the morning so the sun is in the East and the top is South thus making it the North pole.

I just think it's more likely that the animators messed up. I don't think anyone, except you two, pay that close attention =p. I just don't think you can get much information from that picture, because there is so much information we could assume about it, yet we're just convincing ourself something that isn't true. I just don't think an animated picture is reliable.
