WAT made me think of something. Why do you think he went?

Why do you think Iroh chose to go with Zuko? He was a well-respected general (I think), and even if Ozai started his propaganda then, well I'm sure Iroh would still have some pull. Or at least a few followers. As I said, he was a well respected general? With his only failure being the one at Ba Sing Se (so I think I've read). The original crown prince. Surely people loved him.

And he loves Zuko as we know. After losing his son he thought of his nephew as his son. As we know. And we know it hurt him to see Ozai burn and banish his own son.

But why would he choose to go with Zuko? What do you think? His love for Zuko? Or anger at his brother? Did he have words with Ozai, heated words? No pun intended.

I know I look into things a lot but I don't think it was just because it was his nephew or just because he was his teacher. Azula was sent to the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, so surely Zuko had a teacher before Iroh?

Anyway enough of my ramblings. Why do you think Iroh chose to go with Zuko?

Because he's his newphew and thinks of him as his son, and doesn't really want him out in the world by himself.

Well, by that time he had already changed from how he used to be. Lu Ten died some years before that, which changed his entire outlook on life. He became a "different man".

I think he went because of his love for Zuko. I think that from the beginning, Iroh thought what Ozai was commanding Zuko to do was wrong, but he encouraged it for Zuko's sake.

Yes I know he loves Zuko. And I imagine he wanted to take care of him. But do you really think Ozai would have wanted him to go? Or Zuko to take at least a dozen soldiers? I imagine that was Iroh persisting there.

And I'm talking nothing of the episode, but of something the episode made me think, so I see no reason to go there. This really has nothing to do with WAT at all.

Iroh lost his real son.And Ozai didn't care about his son because he did banish him.So Iroh might have decided that Zuko would need someone with him, so he treated him as his own son.

Ozai sent him the army force because it's very impractical to do what he was doing with any form of soldiers.

Besides all those soldiers are replaceable and he just wanted to get Zuko out of his hair so he might as well give the poor boy some soldiers, it's not like he wanted him to die.

Makes some sense. Though I don't really see Ozai as saying "Here, take these soldiers". I could see him banishing Zuko alone. But with the task of finding the Avatar, and manning a ship, he would need them.

And perhaps Iroh went to make sure they obeyed orders? Who would you listen to, a young banished prince or a retired(?) general?

A retired general who could also spit fire.

Yeah I think most everyone would listen to that!

Well, when do you think that Iroh went to see "The Fireneding Masters"? Before Ba Sing Se so that his firebending would be more powerful or after Ba Sing Se and his son so that he could be a different person and know the true meaning behind firebending?

Personally, I think it could be either but most likely I would say after myself. Losing his son might have caused him to lose his inner fire.

My guess is Ozai wanted him out of the way, and Iroh was glad to get away from everything.

Simple. Iroh lost his son who he loved dearly. Ozai just basically throws his son away. Zuko now damaged and on the path for failure. Iroh, who does not act like other fire nation royalty sees a chance to be a "father" and mentor to a boy who needs guidance. I think it would be very good for any troubled young man to have a father figure with as much wisdom and compassion as Iroh.

He's wise and I think he had really already chosen sides, he was just letting Zuko make the descisions.

It gives Iroh a real reason to travel the world with his angsty relative.
