HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! HE LOOKS LIKE A HIPPO! LOL!!!
Its a pretty common anime expression. I love when the animators throw little things in like this.

I don't know but I kinda felt like Zuko was trying too hard. Like he was kinda jerk to Aang calling him a 'goody-goody' . . .even though it's like his character to do that, I'd think he'd be able to come up with a sensible argument instead of childish names. That and both the firebenders that they meet, he practically screamed at them to remember Katara . . . .I think he was trying a bit too hard but . . . at least he was forgiven. That's the main highlight of the episode. ^^

On AvatarSpirit, someone said that Yun Ra's suffering through quite the poetic justice. He kills Katara's mom, now he's cursed by having a mother of his own with an immense longevity and putting him through a non physical torture. Like that person said, who I don't remember the name of, I hope Yun Ra's mom lives a long, long time.

I had those same concerns before, or at least something like them. But we've all got to remember that Zuko knows what it feels like to lose a mother. He can relate to Katara, and he desperately wants to help her. Not only because he can relate, but also because he wants her to trust him. His connection to her family problems sparked an anger in him when confronted with the "sea ravens" or "southern raiders". Whatever they call themselves =]

Here's what a friend of mine had to say about the episode:

Here is what I think of The Southern Raiders.

Well the episode starts out with The Gaang sleeping, early in the morning, then they are surprised attacked by Azula and her war blimps. So Zuko runs out, like some John McClane action hero and goes one on one with Azula on the war blimps. Why he did that when Toph had the situation under contral is beyound me. Zuko and Azula's battle was minimum, boring, and seemed to be a repeat of TBR battle. There were even any good or new moved that were used in that battle and they could have at least blew up one or two of the blimps because I love to see things go boom! So they escape and set up camp on some island. Here came the worest problem of the whole episode: Katara PMSing Normaly I don't really care but this episode they really went over board with the PMSing. It was really annoying this episode. Looks like Sokka and Suki had something going on. So Zuko and Katara leave to find the person who killed her mother. Wow another episode where Zuko and some random member of the Gaang go out to do something. They sure haven't done anything like that. If you can't tell I'm being sarcastic. They alreadly did something like that in TFM, TBR, and now this episode. So Zuko and Katara go on there super secret ninja mission. Two problems: Not enough action and Katara PMSing I did like it how it turned out it wasn't the guy. Oh but wait I forgot something, the Southern Raiders armor. Seriouly WTF? Where are just the normal Fire Nation kick ass awesome skull faced soilder? So now we finally find the person who killed Katara's mother. The only promblem with him is that he is a complete loser who had to do chores for his mother. Then Katara and Zuko finally find him and right then. She is going to kill him but what does she do? She lets him live and doesn't even forgive him. WTF? You didn't even need to show the murder, just like the murder of Katara's mom, but they pussied out. So know they come back and then they the worest, most cheesy line I have ever heard on Avatar. Violence isnt' the answer. WTF? What have you been doing this whole series? VIOLENCE! What next? Don't do drugs? Overrall it was a pretty crappy episode and one of my least favorite of this season. Now go on and flame me and tell me I'm wrong because that is so going to change my opinion.

In fact, it was just disturbing. *SPOILERS* One of the reasons I found it so disturbing was because Katara chose to bloodbend again, something she seemed pretty opposed to at the end of whatever the episode was she learned it in (considering she broke down crying). And she did it out of rage, not just anger. Also, the main issue of the episode wasn't completely solved. As she said herself, she'll never forgive the man. If she can never forgive him, she'll always carry that rage with her, and she'll never be truly happy and she'll never be able to forgive the rest of the Fire Nation. So even though she no longer connects Zuko with her mother's death, she still connects it to the man and the nation he fought for. I felt like she didn't kill the man because he wasn't really what she was, dare I say, hoping for. I believe she was looking for a person that was pure evil. In her mind, she was villainizing the man for years, making him out to be more than he actually was, and when she found him, he turned out to be a simple coward. At that point, I easily imagined her saying something to the effect of "You're not even worth killing." The whole episode just made me feel sorrow for Katara. Her hatred is still there, even if it's not directed toward Zuko anymore, which is a very small consolation. A couple other things I noticed. Azula's grip on reality is weakening, which was clear from the end of "The Boiling Rock." She's losing her calm, and when she finally loses it, that'll cause her to slip and either perish or be captured. Second, I know how Aang felt at the end of the episode. Sometimes you know what's right and wrong, but they don't always connect like they should in your mind. Overall, the whole thing was very telling. I just hope they can wrap it all up in less than two and a half hours. They did it right in season 1 and 2. I can only hope they do it right again.
Nice analysis. But it is very hard to forgive someone who murders your mother. I was hoping that she wouldn't just quickly forgive him by the end of the episode, because that would take away some of the realism I always felt Avatar had (yea even though it's a cartoon about people who can shoot fire). I still believe one can be happy, while still not forgiving a murderer. Personally I don't see any reason why she should really forgive him, he's done nothing to earn the forgiveness, unlike Zuko who has done so ever since WAT.
Agreed, in the words of Full Metal Alchemist manga 79 page 12-14
"You can't continue killing those generals"
"You mean we should forgive them!?! afterall they did?!"
"No, we cannot forgive those people after what they did. We need to let go of the anger and resist the urge to seek revenge. One can do the right thing without forgiving."

I'm gonna talk truth w/ you Suss. I (aang forbid) That Zuko would be more of a "aggresive force" in the gaan. I know this is a kids show but in my show Katara would have done exactly what she did and as she walked away ...Zukos stares into his pathitic eyes and says.. It's unfortunite for you that I am less sypathitic to your painfull past. SLICE .. die slowly and await your judgement

I think that would've been a cool scene but it would've been kinda OOC.

I just wish that Katara beat up the man before deciding not to kill him.

What do you guys think of the things he pointed out?

Well, on the Zuko sacrificing himself, he wants to fight his sister. Also, Azula was breaking through their defenses. They didn't have much time left. And it also wasn't like TBR because this was purely between Azula and Zuko. It showed the beginning of Azula's madness and the fact that they are pretty evenly matched. Katara was NOT PMSing. She has always had a grudge against Zuko, and her mothers death has always haunted her. If your mother got killed and you were angry it wouldn't be due to PMSing. Katara had every right to be out of her mind with anger. The reason we've had so many "Zuko fieldtrips" is because the characters each have to bond with Zuko. He's a new member and we;ve got to see what relationships will be created with him around. All because "Violence is not the answer" is an overused line does not make it cheesy. Sometimes violence isn't the answer, especially in this case. It would've done Katara no good to destroy that man, and it shows how she strong she is when she stops herself. You looked at the episode all wrong. You've got to look at it from more of an emotional view than a physical view.

Well I do think that he really wanted her to trust him . . . which i don't mind. But still, it all seemed kinda rushed with some major issues. I really liked the beginning and the ending but the middle seemed really fast. I blinked and it was over. I don't really mind about him getting all psycho on the firebenders but him being an ass to Aang was kinda . . . off. He wasn't a total jerk but still . . . there was two or three things he said that made me scratch my head and say 'wha?'. But at least he brought up a good point in the end . . .'how is aang ganna deafeat the fire lord?' . . . we all know now but Aang doesn't. ^^

speaking of which where is bumi can't wait to see him

I doubt we'll see him. There's really no reason to meet up with him again. I always liked Bumi, but I would much rather have that much more time with Iroh.

He has to come back Aang could of freed him but he said it wasn't the right time

    \
Hm, that's a thought. But I honestly doubt it. There have been no new refrences to Bumi at all. It would be a little out of the blue.
What, do you forget the old commercial? Where Bumi says "Well, look who's here!"?

    See this chic pays attention

I disagree with most. I didnt really notice the simliarities between the fight in TBR and this one. And Aang has always been against offensive violence. I dont think he understood the point of the soldier being pathetic, followed by Katara not killing him. He wasnt worth it.

I don't know what else to say, aside from QFT.

I did not expect this episode to contain so much suggestive things lol. I dont know how it got away with a Y7 rating because the Sokka part really crossed the line on what is acceptable for a nick cartoon. This is probably why nick decided to cram the rest of everything into one week so it would never been seen again because of the definite complaints from parents and w/e. Bryke probably took advantage of this last season to bring us things that would not normally be shown on nick and for that I give them thumbs up. Now to start making gifs of Sexy Sokka and innocent Zuko!

same is true w/metal bending there is none just powerfull earth benders.

speaking of which where is bumi can't wait to see him

I doubt we'll see him. There's really no reason to meet up with him again. I always liked Bumi, but I would much rather have that much more time with Iroh.

He has to come back Aang could of freed him but he said it wasn't the right time

\ Hm, that's a thought. But I honestly doubt it. There have been no new refrences to Bumi at all. It would be a little out of the blue.
What, do you forget the old commercial? Where Bumi says "Well, look who's here!"?
    See this chic pays attention
