I would say they can because the Fire Nation had to burn all the earth out of their metal so the earthbenders can't do anything to their ships. And with glass it still has a bit of earth in it when it's turned into glass(i think).

Okay, everyone is getting a little too scientifically deep here. One might ask, "can toph bend earth?"-answer is yes. "can toph bend sand?"-answer is yes. "Can toph bend melted sand?"-maybe. "Can toph bend glass?"-probably not, hence we haven't seen it. "But melted sand and glass are made out of the same stuff!"-yes, but following that reasoning, earth benders could bend alot more than just earth. People have the elements of earth in them, "yeah so cant they bend people?"-answer is no. Somewhere along the line there is are limits. For now let's just think of everything as the writers intended...earthbenders bend earth, waterbenders bend water, ect.

Theres more earth in glass than in people.. Remember people are 75% water.

We know that king bumi could bend crystals, and that from the season 2 ending the dai lee can bend crystals (they pinned iroh with the crystals remember?).

So my question is how different is the property of glass and crystals?

And if they can bend crystals, then Toph certainly can.

Glass is just melted sand, which is finely ground peices of stone. So, yes. I think she would be able to.

??1. the earthbenders of ba sing sei were able to bend crystals to immobilize Iroh.
??2. Toph is easily the better earthbender compared to those of ba sing sei or any other earthbender (as far as i know)
    ??
    Conclusion:

    Toph can bend crystals.

There isn't a whole lot of glass around the world of Avatar. If there were, Toph would need to bend the glass away from her bare feet-- that, or make glass slippers.

We've seen Aang and the Dai Li bend crystals, and Toph is a better earthbender than both. She had trouble with bending sand, and glass is refined sand, so I doubt she could ever master glassbending (perhaps a master sandbender?). And "Humanbending" is a fantasy. I doubt the writers would ever give any bender that kind of power. Airbenders have that ability close enough, and there's only one left. Oh, and the Earth King wears glasses, so glass does exist in the Avatar world.

Earth benders can bend crystal. As far as glass goes. Glass is made from sand but it has to be desert sand not beach sand because beach glass is made from shells and desert sand is from rock.
