Is anyone else wondering about the baby, Hope? Like...I dunno, they seemed to zoom up on her a lot (someone mentioned this a couple posts back...), and there was obviously a huge emphasis placed on the theme of "Hope" in this tv movie. Actually, the whole show has had that theme. For example: "But I haven't lost hope. I still believe the Avatar will return to save the world" as said by Katara in the pilot opening. Later, in "The Avatar Returns," Katara's Grandma says, "You have a long journey ahead of you. It's been so long since I've had hope, but you brought it back to life, my little waterbender." In Imprisoned, the Warden tells Katara, "You thought a few inspirational words and some coal would change these people? Look at these blank, hopeless faces. Their spirits were broken a long time ago. Oh? But you still believe in them" Then in "The Storm," Katara says, "I know it's meant to be this way. The world needs you now. You give people hope." which ironically, Luitenant Jee also says to Iroh, "So that's why he's so obsessed. Finding the Avatar is the only chance he has of things returning to normal." and Iroh replies, "Things will never return to normal. But the important thing is, the Avatar gives Zuko hope." And now, in "The Serpent's Pass," the entrance says, "Abandon Hope," right? And then Aang says, "The monks used to say that hope is just a distraction. So maybe we do need to abandon it. Hope isn't going to get us into Ba Sing Se, and it's not gonna find Appa." And then later, (although I don't remember the exact quote" but when the baby is born, he says something along the lines of, "Seeing this family together, filled with happiness...it's made me hopeful again." I'm sure there are more references to Hope, but that's all I can think of at the top of my head. Because of this, I have a feeling this baby will be important. Whether it be important like, she grows up to be a really important character, or important as in she is symbolic of something like, "Hope is born" (haha, you can take that literally and symbollically. Genius, no?). Then again, maybe I'm just over-analyzing things...well, I just had to toss that in here and state my opinion. I'm not sure how many people agree with me, but whatever. |
Didn't really notice myself, but next time I watch it (possibly on YouTube) I'll keep my eyes out for that part.
What I thought as really interesting was the fact that Iroh and Zuko met up with the Family from Serpent's Pass. My theory on Zuko finding out what Aang and gang did (delivering he baby for those who forgot) will probably and hopefully be right. But I'm not so sure that girl that was with Mama and Dada (can't remember their names) is NOT the girl that Zuko goes on a date with. She seemed VERY unimportant and sometimes you don't even SEE her when you should. Like on the train. Didn't even show an arm or a leg. She's too unimportant in my opinion. Who knows?

SPOILERS IN THIS POST. Okay. I really think that was possibly the worst of the series. I was pleased Suki came back, and I knew Smellerbee was a girl pretty much since I first saw her. Glad they made a point of it. Katara was OOC in this episode. Much too bossy. Sokka was a bit girl-crazed, and Aang seems to be returning to his original character. Toph seemed to add a lot of idiocy to the movie. I didn't feel it was rushed, I felt it moved too slowly. Toph x Sokka made me laugh. Then I thought, "Suki... and Toph... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" You know it's going to happen via fanfiction. x_X Aang all of a sudden rocks at Earthbending. How'd they get out of the desert? Appa fell into the background even though I knew that would happen anyway. Mai is obviously not going to be a main character, which is a shame as I really liked her until this episode. I enjoyed Ty Lee, I had to explain to my parents that her "aura couldn't be pinker" then they got all the jokes. ^-^ Imitation Aangs = YAYNESS Suki and Sokka felt a bit rushed, but I preferred those scenes to Yue and Sokka's. That KataraxZuko scene rocked. I thought they would show more than just two of those scenes though. I feel like this show has changed. I felt the whole episode was talking down to me. When Toph said, "The drill's pressure points!" I felt like crying. Toph added nothing and made me feel like a loser. Anybody else think it was hilarious when Sokka passed out from the birth? That made me laugh, it was really funny. I really thought they were going to name the baby "Yue" instead of "Hope" which also made me feel it was a show for younger kids than me. I didn't like the CGI for the drill. I actually don't like the CGI in the show. Actually, the drill didn't look right to me at all... x_X So... 5/10. Actually, 6/10 for the first episode. The Suki protecting Sokka and Sokka protecting Suki thing made my evening. |

After reading that,??I realized Iroh is the seems to be the only one who doesn't need somebody/something to give him hope like in avatar day.
Zuko: There is no honor for me without the avatar.
Iroh: Zuko... Even if you did capture the avatar, I'm not so sure it would solve our problems, not now.
Zuko: Then there is no hope at all
Iroh: NO ZUKO, you must never give in to despair, allow yourself to slip down that road??and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times hope is something you give yourself, that is the meaning of inner strength.

I've got it. The parents are going to leave the baby on the street because the sign said "Abandon Hope". Huh, huh? Come on, it's genius. |

?? How did I forget about that quote? And you're right...everyone else does seems to depend on someone for bringing them hope. As for Sokka...Breakflame does have kind of a point...I want to involve Yue as his icon of hope, but....I guess Sokka just isn't the hopeful type. I never really heard him talk about hope...but I might be overlooking something, so who knows?

I think he gave up hope a couple of times. When he was stuck in the crack. He started to give everything just to be free. In the desert he thought they wouldnt survive and it was revived when he saw the cactus. Iroh seems to have given up hope only after his son died. |
