Malcolm Reynolds: Zuko (He fits nicely as a guy who was on the losing side of a war and has some dirt laundry)
Zoe Washborne: Katara
Hoban "wash"Washborne: Aang
Inara Serra: Mai
Kaylee Frye: (Both are upbeat and share a positive attitude)
Simon Tam: Haru
River Tam: Summer Glau (River's too badass and cool to be replaced!)
Shephard Brook: Iroh
The Operative: Zhao or The Combustion Man
Mr. Universe: Teo or The Mechanist

My version using Naruto
Aang- Naruto- both wind types and have that hero thing going on.
Zuko- Sasuke- don't think needs explaining.
Toph- Tayuya- If cussing was allowed I could see Toph having a similar mouth. Although I also could see her as Naruto ignoring gender that is, both like giving nicknames to people they know.
Azula- Itachi- the superior sibling role.
Mai- Konan- Both are just kind of there with few lines.
Sokka- Lee- Reason no bending/ninjutsu but contributes in other areas. Plus both have been drunk.
Ty Lee- Ino- the popular girl
Iroh- Sandaime- wise old men who can still fight.
Katara- A combination of Sakura and Hinata. Lacks the biasness that Sakura but has more confidence than Hinata.

I thought of Wicked...but in order to use Wicked, we'd have to do some major gender bending here...
Especially since the personalities line up like this:
Elphaba: Zuko
Galinda/Glinda: Aang (the two main characters already cause trouble)
Fiyero: Sokka (it's so weird how these line up, seriously)
Boq: Meng
Nessarose: Toph (closest match I could make since I didn't want her left out)
Wizard: Ozai (zomg, check out the elphaba-wizard/zuko-ozai thing!)
Madame Morrible: Azula
Chistery/other monkeys: Mai, Ty Lee, and the Dai Li
Seriously, how much gender bending would be needed to turn Wicked into an Avatar thing?

Danny: Aang (both got powers they essentially didn't want, but accept their responsibility and save the day!)
Tucker: Sokka (come on, they're practically clones)
Sam: Either Katara or Toph, I can't exactly decide which. They both fit her pretty well. Though, I'm leaning more towards Toph.
Skulker: Zuko (the hunter, come on!)
Walker: Long Feng
Wulf: Jet
Box Ghost: Iroh!
Vlad: Ozai
I can't think of any other DP ones...
