I was wondering if the Avatar is an American cartoon or Japanimation? Because in the episodes there are Chineese letters all-over, but the idea is kind of American. Like Captain Planet, the four elements (They add the heart). Fantastic four, if I'm not mistaken is american too, although the rubber boy (Ha ha) is kinda watter, and the invisible girl is... hmmmm .. air?.. ha ha.

Also if one watches the cartoons, when they talk, they look as if they were "speaking" english. In the other hand, the "panorama" looks like they were walking in China.

So I'm like cofused here!. If anybody would be so kind to tell me. THX God Bless Y'all.

It's American. But the animation is done in Japan (I think)

But for all intents and purposes, it's American. The writers, crators, producers, voice actors are all American, and it's made in America. (Except the mudane job of making all the animation)

The put the chinese letters cause they wanna portray an accurate picture of Asian-esqu life.

It is indeed American produced with asian animation.?? However, the show is rich in asian-influenced arts and culture from the martial arts aspect to the spirit world.?? Even names of characters on the show are actual words in various asian languages:?? Bumi means earth in Indonesian, Hakoda and Haru are both real japanese words, Hei-Bei is black and white in chinese, and I could go on & on..?? Let's not forget about that tea thing, kimonos, calligraphy, and buddhist monks!??

Pretty much that. Its an American show that's heavily influenced by Asian culture. Hence why "asian-influenced" is a much closer term to describe it than the typical "anime-inspired."

Actually, the animation is done by two studios in Korea.

Yea, I was waitng for someone to correct me on this one. I knew it was done in Asia, but I couldn't remember which particular country. Thanks, not knowing for sure would have bugged me for the rest of the day.

It is sort of like American anime, but they blend the lines well enough, and keep most the gimmicks out. Out of all the shows that use a anime style, Avatar does it the best. Yes I am looking at you French made Totally Spies, and WB made Teen Titans with your overused anime face expressions complete with lazy animation.

I dunno, I've seen that oversized head anime look in Avatar?? as well... and actually I find it adds comic relief??to emphasis what is going on at the time??sometimes.?? It all depends on when it is used and hopefully, not used too much.

personally i dislike the weird exaggeration found in most anime shows... the expanding head, the moving dot arms and legs, the veins? that appear on foreheads when people get angry, the list goes on and on. (i'm not even close to being an expert, though) one of the things i like most about avatar is that it generally keeps that stuff to a minimum.

I agree with ya. That part of "Lake Laogai" was the only part I didn't like about the episode. I don't think it adds comic relief, I think it adds flat out stupid moments to a show that shouldn't have them and is good enough without.

Avatar is a combination of american animation and japanimation. Avatar is obviously an american show, but it is animated in Korea. It's sort of like japanimation, but it has some american influence.

So is nearly every animated show on tv these days. With a few exceptions.
As for the anime expressions it is not like the creators insert those expressions every 30 seconds.

And I thought I was the only one. I didn't even have to watch it, I first saw it in a screenshot and it still made me wanna bend over and cry. That's 1 for 2, if they use a chibi on this thing, that's it for me. Unless its used on Toph cause that be just adorable. Anyway yeah what I dislike it that whenever an American show decides to due and Anime-inspired/asian influenced cartoon (Teen Titans, Kappa Mikey), they always go with the "cartoon-y" anime. Then to finish it, they go overboard with the effects (Teen Titans and Kappa Mikey again) and use very limited animation. I find Avatar to be somewhat of a breath of fresh air due to their choice to actually use "cinematic" anime for once. Not to mention decent animation and actually having a plot and storyline (which isn't neccessarily exclusive to anime but it is one of its traits yet is scarcely seen). And yeah, compared to most the show does keep the anime effects on the down-low (basicaly the kill for me is just the chibi and big head thing). So yeah, its not that bad. Still, first sign of chibi and I'm off (unless its Toph).
