yea. it was nice to see that she even said some things that even she knows she didn't mean. like when she said to sokka, "then you didn't love her like i did". That was harsh, yea?
omg, i couldnt believe she said that. And sokka's reaction was perfect, very well done by sokka's VA (i forgot his name...)

It's funny how you all missed Katara's comment to Sokka. And you still defend her. "You must not have loved her like I did." Yeah. Uncalled for. Telling someone that they didn't love their mother? Cruel and harsh, no matter how angry she was. Aang was nothing but helpful the whole episode, trying to give her advice(good advice, mind you), and she brushed him off like he wasn't there. She was bloodbending. She hated herself for using that to save Aang and Sokka, and all of a sudden she's so willing to use it on some guy who isn't even the right person. No, not acceptable. It's wasn't Aang or Sokka's fault that her mother died, and she treated them like crap for nothing.
On one hand, i agree with you. That comment she made to Sokka and how easily she was willing to manipulate another when she'd felt like crap about it before? Waaay out of line. But on the other hand, I can't agree with you fully. I mean, if you think about it in your point of view, wouldn't you be pissed off if your mother's killer went unpunished and you finally discover where they are, only everyone else is tryinng to stop you from confronting him? Hell, i'd want to MAKE this guy feel pain for all the unmeasurable suffering he put me and my family through. And all that stuff she said, we all know she didn't mean it. like others, Katara let her emotions get the best of her, and she was angry. it hard to think rationally through your conflicting emotions when it's not someone else the bad stuff's happened to, it's you. But anyway, katara's still a b!tch. I mean I like her, but that doesn't change. i agree with Spike385. Why ARE so many people surprised?

I'm not surprised about her being a ***** to be honest. I'd go into my friend's 'Katara's overrated' speech, but meh. I really don't care about Katara honestly: I don't like her or hate her (I do like her hairstyle though), though I'll admit, she's my least favorite character in the Gaang. But this isn't like it's the first time she's been mean to anyone. Remember the stuff with Toph?

I agree and disagree with the above statements: Katara was way too harsh to both Sokka and Aang. I understand her anger about her mother and her death but it wasn't like Aang was telling her not to confront him: he was saying do so but don't let your anger get the better of you so much that you do something drastic or that you'll regret. He knows Katara is a better person than that and it wasn't about 'confrontation' it was about 'revenge'. Sokka saw the exact same thing and instead of realizing that they only meant well, she outright brushed them off harshly and to Sokka, her statement was completely uncalled for. And the fact that she didn't apologize to him at any point of the show didn't make the situation better.

I lost a lot of respect for her after this episode. I understood her feelings. Very well. (I won't go into my own personal tragedy...) And yes, I understand the anger and resentment that one feels when something like that happens. I had years to harbor my feelings and when the day finally came after the trial when I got to tell this man how I felt, I let him have it. The weight was lifted. And while I have yet to forgive him, I never took my anger out on my family the way she did Sokka. And that's why I lost respect. Maybe some people in my family didn't seem as angry as I did and dealt with it in a different way, but I know they were in just as much pain as I was. I would never tell my older brother and younger sister that they didn't love my mother the same way I did just because they had an easier time forgiving the person that took her away.

Meh, I don't know. When she said that to Sokka and never apologized or anything, it pissed me off. A lot. The fact that she said it was enough but never apologizing was too much. He didn't deserve that. No one in that situation did and I think less of her as a character now.

Too me no, I just think it takes alot of time to forgive and forget but in this storyline of the episode it's just not their for that guy who killed Katara and Sokka's mother. I do feel pain for her, But she made the right decision into not killing the "Retiree". It's best to not give in tempatation because if you do, The chances are you will not be able to take it back no matter what the consequences are? You never know what you will do when come up to a decision like this, The decision can be fast and/or it can be slow having the reaction time to know what will you do. I believe she made the right choice, She didn't make me mad about the situation she was in.

I still don't understand why some people were really annoyed that Katara hadn't forgiven Zuko the episode after he joined the Gaang. She got betrayed big time by someone that she trusted, and that betrayal led to Aang's death (however momentary). She probably felt guilty for letting Zuko gain her trust in the first place instead of just attacking him outright and stopping him from siding with Azula. So, along with that tumult of emotions, she was also dealing with her mother's death again in TSR. Plus there's the huge stress of the impending arrival of the comet weighing on everyone's minds, including hers. So really, Katara's expecting her to act the exact way that I'd expect her to.

And anyone who says she's just PMSing should probably reflect on what Katara's had to deal with

Katara's come across as a b**** more times than I can count in the series. I knew she wouldn't go through with getting back at the guy, its just like her to do that.

I was just disappointed that they picked a lame "forgiveness" theme for the episode. I agreed with Zuko "its like doing nothing."

It was strange that she didn't apologize, but I suppose it was because time wouldn't allow for it. The episode was rushed as is. And I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm angry that Katara didn't at least injure the guy who murdered her mother. I actually wanted her to kill him. It would've added a lot to the complexity of her character, and the whole "I've hated you for what you did but I still can't hurt you" routine is far too cliche. If they had the chance to do that episode over, they should have Katara put him down like a rabid dog.

I know huh. Seems like Zuko hasn't turned entirely to the light side yet. XP Or he could just be practicing his annoying trait of ignoring wisdom. He's only done that to Iroh about 50 million times.

QFT, both of these. Zuko was a total @$$ in this episode. He was so determined to get Katara to like him, that he lost all his better judgement. It's a good thing Katara proved to be more mature than him in the end, or else that guy would have been impaled with icycles.

Hey, was anyone else dissapointed with the end of this episode. I was expecting some plot twist similar to what happened in Spider Man 3. I was expecting the bad guy to be less bad than Katara thought, maybe just a soldier following orders and not realizing the consequences of his actions until later and being filled with remorse when Katara found him (and not just because she was going to kill him). It even would have been believable if it turned out that he hadn't actually been the one who killed her. It was a let down to see that he was just as bad as Katara claimed he was.

Btw, remember when Katara was bloodbending and the guy made squishy dismemberment noises whenever he would move? Did that gross anyone else out?

You're a stronger person than I could ever be. If someone killed a member of my family, I'd want to murder him on the spot, and I wouldn't give up until he was dead. I can't express how horrible I feel that you had to go through such a tragedy, but I commend you for your strength and ability to face the person who hurt him without trying to get revenge.

In the physical world, sure, nothing happens when someone forgives someone. But niether of us really have no idea what it takes to forgive the man that killed your family. On another note, yah forgiveness is a cliche theme for an episode, but what do you want the theme to be for a kids cartoon? Killing those that grievously wronged you makes things as right as the circumstances dictate? For one thing, that just simply isnt true, and it certainly wont show up in a kids' cartoon.

I agree. She didn't even make a big deal of it. You'd think that she'd be mad at herself at the end of the episode or SOMETHING. She didn't even acknowledge it.

I don't understand, why is everyone bashing on Katara? She's one of the best characters on the show! Throughout the whole series her personality has climaxed more and more! So what if she told Sokka 'Maybe you didn't love mom as much as I did'. Everyone knows they would say that if the person they were closest to died. I said almost the same thing to my sister when my uncle died. The only reason Katara did say that to him was because him nor Aang were agreeing with her on killing the man who took her mother away from her. But look, at the end of the episode she forgave Zuko and what was done was done! Because she got to face the man who killed her mom and because she FINALLY forgave Zuko, it's gonna make her become how she was before, but she'll be more expressive of herself and not keep her emotions bottled up inside! You know, before Katara became a so called 'b*tch', I heard many people on this forum say she needed to be more expressive of herself and let her emotions out, well she did, and you people still think something is wrong with how she is. Well I don't see the problem anymore, so everyone needs to stop saying how they hate her all because she decided to bloodbend again and because of the remark she made to Sokka.

I thought the Southern Raiders was good, but it felt a bit rushed, as if they were trying to squeeze two episodes of content into one.

And, while Katara annoyed me with her "I'm going to stay angry and fight with Zuko even though what it's obvious he's good and is trying to help me" attitude, I can see where she was coming from. Last firebender she saw killed her mother. Next one she sees is Zuko, wearing the exact same outfit. You're gonna link the two together and hate Zuko.
