    I'm sorry to question your ideas, But what if there is no one to teach them airbending??? What if they are nomads but the can't find a techer?? They can't teach them selves!

    Well that's odd, because for about 14 years of Katara's life, she had no teacher, but she was still a waterbender. Not having a teacher doesn't mean you're not a bender.
    She lived in constant interaction with water and her people. But if these Airnomads are slaves they sure are in no conditions to learn to bend.

    I would imagine that airbenders are always in contact with air.

    And as I said before, Katara had no teacher. She was the only waterbender in her tribe. She taught HERSELF to bend. If someone has the potential to bend, regardless of whether or not they use it, they are a bender.

    This raises the question about how do benders first find out they're a bender?(outside of the Air Nomads) Does a Fire Nation kid just wake up, yawns and flames shoot out his mouth? Or is it known from birth somehow?

    So you're proposing that the child was seperated before his or her parent could explain his or her airbending, and that this happened for every single slave?

    I'm sorry to question your ideas, But what if there is no one to teach them airbending??? What if they are nomads but the can't find a techer?? They can't teach them selves!

    Well that's odd, because for about 14 years of Katara's life, she had no teacher, but she was still a waterbender. Not having a teacher doesn't mean you're not??a bender.

    Exactly, but Leo's point was that the Airbenders in this theory wouldn't be airbenders because they didn't have teachers, which isn't the case. If they were born airbenders, then they're airbenders.
    If they can't bend they are just air nomads. Perhaps all air nomads HAVE THE ABILITY TO BEND, that does not mean the were born knowing how to airbend. So even if they could bend, if there is no teacher they can't.

    Getting frustrated now... The ability to bend means that they??are Airbenders! Whether or not they were trained is a completely different story, but if they can end, then they are CALLED Airbenders.

    Katara learned to bend and learned of her ability without a teacher.
    But she had a very different situation to what a slave could have, she was in contact with her heritage and tribe history. But a slave probably does not even know he/she is an Air Nomad.
    So you're proposing that the child was seperated before his or her parent could explain his or her airbending, and that this happened for every single slave?

    Why not?

    May be the FN killed the parents but had mercy on small children.

    An airbender = someone with the potential to bend. An Air Nomad and an Airbender are the exact same thing. You might not be able to practice, or might not have a teacher, but you still are an airbender if you are an Air Nomad.

    I think they might choose toys or something like Aang did for the avatar, but I don't think Katara would've had the toys, so.... idk. This past century for avatar should have had the least amount of benders in the world. If the bending is spiritual in a child, and one of the main spirits went missing, then maybe there will be an increase in benders within the next century or so

    Hmmm...good point. I think it's something spiritual, like it just happens one day. For example, take Katara. She learned her "new ability" in The Deserter without even trying. She just wanted to cool down her newly-burnt hands. Possibly something like that could reveal a bender.

    On that note, I've been told 100% that Sokka is not a bender

    The problem that pops up sometimes is that one person is talking about one post, while another is talking about something else. For example, piranhapete quoted a post from a while back (but still had a large pyramid) while I was talking about something else. Misunderstandings are more annoying to me than pyramid quoting.
