Nickelodeon (ended 2008)
this is obviously you're first time so i'll give you the short version...First off the show isn't anime it's??Asian influenced but american made...and??these "magic tricks are" called bending, which is done using the 4 original Japanese elements(and based in 4 different styles of Kung Fu), so??there are Water , Earth, Fire, and Airbenders...the Avatar is the one human that can bend all 4 and that's the bald headed kid with the arrow...the Fire Nation is waging a war on the??world and the Avatar is the only person who can end it...problem is the Avatar is 12 years old(and also the last living Airbender who was wiped out by the Fire Nation 100 years prior to the show)...that's the simple background
now my reason why the show is so great? its a unique blend of top flight animation, solid voice acting, very unique and original story, interesting characters with history, and humor...to really understand you should watch the Storm??to learn the general background that's the 12th episode but its one of the definitive episodes that gives alot of character development and background...i'm sure??my other??fellow??Avatar fans??will be able to imput more...
Well we do that pretty much sums it up I guess.

oooh. so the fire nation is liek nazis (pardon me if anyone is offended) |

ok, but what about the earth nation and the water nation then. does everyone hate the air-bender people or something? |
I figured you'd ask somethin like that...
as the beginning of the show says "Long ago the 4 Nations lived together in harmony, then everythin changed when the Fire Nation attacked." they attacked the Air Nomads(the name for the large group of Airbenders) and it was a deadly first strike they were taken off guard and were wiped out(plus they had an added power boost...more on that later)...but Aang(the Avatar) wasn't there he ran away, cuz we didn't want to be the Avatar(he was too young to accept the responibility) and after getting caught in a storm??in the sea,??froze himself in the ice??to save himself from drowning...and he lay frozen in the ice for 100 years while the war waged on...

maybe iwill watch the first 3 episodes or something then. i just thought it was a bunch of kids defying the laws of physics. |
actually it IS a bunch of kids (and adults) defying the laws of physics

Oh ok thanks. that maeks a lot more sense. so the fire is more powerful than rock, water, or wind i guess then right? |
not exactly...i mentioned a power boost earlier...well Firebenders??draw their power from the Sun, so they're more powerful during the day, while Waterbenders are more powerful at night since they draw their power from the Moon...the Firebenders can??also draw??extra power from a comet...and they used the power of a comet to boost their Firebending and allow them to deliver the first and deadly strike on the Air Nomads
Yes, military power wise.
All the bending powers have a strength and a weakness... but to make a long story short
The firenation is a military and industrial superpower. Not the firebending itself over the other elements.

think of the Fire Nation as a 1500s empire existing in a 800s world...edge in technology...cuz of their ability to smelt better metal
