Hypothetical; What would you do for book 4? (If there was a book 4)

We all know that the creators were aiming to make 3 seasons (though if they could have known how popular it would be after taking off then they may have aimed for more). I also heard that they were aiming to make 3 seasons and possibly more if it took off, but even though it clearly has I still haven't heard anything about a book 4.

    I've heard that they're considering running a spin-off, instead.

The problem with spin-offs is that when the average fan either hasn't heard that it's a spin off before its launch or, if they do know it's a spin off they're disappointed when it lacks certain characters that they have grown fond of, or the lack of those characters signifies that a change has happened in the story line since the end of the original series and the beginning of the spin-off series (eg, some characters you hoped would get together didn't, a character you really liked died, or the lack of explanation just bothers you).

So, if you were Michael DiMartino or Bryan Konietzko and decided to make a 4th season, what would you do?

I haven't seen Sozin's Comet yet (please don't spoil it for me), but I assume that either Aang survived and the fire nation was defeated or Aang was defeated and either died at the Fire Lords hands or was seriously injured and has to try to defeat him again.

I think it was the first option, Aang defeated the fire nation and lived.

The reason I think this is because the Avatar cycle will be broken if Aang dies. And I'm not talking about dying while he's in the Avatar state, I mean just plain dying. The name of the show is "The Last Airbender". When he dies he'll be reborn into one of the water tribes, the earth kingdom, the fire nation (or possibly the Sun Warriors) and then... What?

I think that it would be kind of cool if the 4th season started off kinda slow, what with the dramatic climax of a 4 part end to the previous season. Aang has to found a whole new air nation, so he starts looking for potential candidates. However something like that doesn't offer the same kind of global threat that the march of the fire nation offered. But I guess, as Avatar, he would still be dealing with the after effects of the fire war anyway (how can you not have a century long war and not be hostile against its instigators?)

Still, a new series based on peace making discussions and training new characters how to bend air doesn't make for the most interesting of programmes There has to be a new threat, and hopefully one that isn't totally apparent, at first, but becomes more so as the seasons progress and the problems related to it become more serious.

But this threat would need to be something bigger than the fire nation. Some people might conclude that the only thing more serious than that is 2 (or more) other nations, but that's just doing the same thing all over again on a larger scale.

    That leaves the spirit world.

So, if I was making a new season it would be; "Book 4; Air". Aang, possibly an older Aang, has decided to teach new students air bending. Unbeknown to him there is a sinister plot, somewhere in the world; a secret organization (NOT the white lotus, as they're pretty obviously 'good guys' ) is plotting to make an attack directly on the spirit world.

Aang once again needs assistance, this time from ones who had had first hand experience with the spirits. Aside from the previous Avatars this includes Iroh, who has been to the spirit world and seems to have the ability to see spirits (he saw Aang on Roku's dragon) and the Guru (don't remember his name).

But ok, let's say there are 3 more seasons based on humans attacking the spirit world, what then? What if the need for more is still there after that and nobody knows where it can go?

The only thing I can think of is the spirits turning on the physical world. I haven't really given this much thought, but it would be cool if this was lead by Koh (the face stealer, particularly sinister) who was gathering allies among the spirits to attack the physical world.

All comments and alternative ideas welcome

But this would be a fanfic. Fanfics aren't allowed on TV.com, I suggest you take it to fanfiction.net.

    *Finale Spoilers below*

    - 1 episode finding Ursa

    - 1 episode dealing with Azula in prison

    - 1 episode dealing with a Fire Nation prison in which the gaurds remain loyal to Ozai and try to kill off its prisoners before they are released, and Aang plays a crucial part in stopping them.

    - 1 episode dealing with a political assassin trying to take Zuko's life

    - 1 episode dealing with a vengeful group of vigilantes trying to kill ex-FN generals and soldiers

    - 1 or perhaps several episodes dealing with the FN civillians question the power and good of Zuko, still believing Ozai's propaganda and they have to be convinced otherwise

    - 1 or 2 episodes concerning Aang teaching a non-bender air bending forms and tecniques so that, even though he's a non-bender, he can aid in preserving the art of airbending even if he never manages to have air nation kids to teach. Or he could teach Katara the moves; that'd be good to.

    - 1 episode concerning a terrorist group of Ozai loyalists

    - 1 episode concerning the recovery of Air temple relics, perhaps with flashbacks to life at the air temples

    - 1 episode concerning helping some refugees find loved ones or a specific loved one

    - 1 episode concerning the earth king and bringing him back to Ba Seng Sei

    - 1 general aftermath episode concerning everything from homeless people who no longer have families to cities who no longer have leaders after being Fire Nation for so long but no more to general physical rebuilding

    - 1 concerning the rebuilding of the Southern Water tribe

    - 1 concerning an Earth Kingdom city in which any Fire Nation citizen who entered would be arrested and thrown in jail

    - 1 Fire Nation colony who refuses to release its grip on an earth kingdom town, standing against the ending of the war

    - Finale episodes concerning an evil FNl general, perhaps one from the previously mentioned prison episode, and his plot to break out Ozai and Azula and overthrow Zuko much like the Dai Li planned to do after Long Feng was arrested.

There's definitely enough material for a book 4 Air

I thoght each seaon was suppose to deal with a bender power like water, fire, earth, air, but twon must of been covered in one season. I really did think it would last to 100 eps because of its popularity, but could they possiblly continue without a story line or make more stories.

Well, if Aang can take away bending, could he not add bending. Book 4 Air could then be how he revives Air Bending, and thus rebuild the Air Nomads. Perhaps give airbending to people like Guru Pathik, he cant be the only one who follows the teachings of the air nomads.

    ehhh if I wrote it

Zuko would break Azula out of Jail to look for their mother, and there would definatley be some Zutara , im not a zutara fan but It would be cool if they had just kissed or something, just not end up together

Maybe Aang could find out that there's actually another Airbender in the world besides him and go's to look for him/her

    Here is mine:

2 years later they all are living in the eastern air temple, except for Zuko who writes 1 a week. Aang has a dream of a young female air bender who is the Avatar at the same moment. Aang gets hold of Zuko and tells him to baracade the whole fire nation and be on the lookout. So after Aang sneaks out about 6 episodes are dedicated to like what has happened in the past two years. Finally he finds a young woman with a cloack on and when she sees him she runs. After and episode of following her he catches her and discovers a horrifying secret....Aang has a twin sister Mitsuki she was frozen in stone untill about 2 years ago. When horrible news breakks after a chearful and tearful reuniom. Iroh has been asasinated and is in grave deathly condition, well aang and Mitsuki are on and island in the middle of the earth nation. Katara and the rest of the group catch wind and look for the two. When the worst happens, Azula and Ozai break out of jail and hunt down Zuko who is in the earth nation treating Iroh. All of history begins to reform as Aang and Mitsuki have a new mission, wipe out the fire nation, COMPLETELY. Do they have the courage to do it??

Should I actually make a story on here based on this?

    Hello y'all i'm new.

i think there could be another series, there is deffinately a good posibility. in the final episode zuko asks his father where his mother is. the fire lord doesn't answer. this could easily be another series of avatar. plus the fact that an avatars work is never done, there are an endless number of adventures for aang and the gang to go on. i loved this animation and i'm not one for cartoons. i would look forward to another series of avatar more then i look forward to new family guy or simpsons or american dad. south park is the exception, nothin beats it. long live avatar aang.

Nah, I don't think season 4 would be good. Aang already mastered the avatar state and Zuko is fire lord. Any foe they'd come up against would pale in comparison to Ozai during the comet. Except Sparky Sparky Boom Boom. He was craaaaaaazy.

It was planned for there to be only 3 seasons. Aang already mastered Air before the 1st book so no need for a 4th.

Personally I believe Avatar is BEGGING for a fourth book. Besides it being a hit show with a loyal fan base, it also has many loose ends and plot hooks to make a very interesting season. Teranef summed up much of the leftover material; of itself, it would be enough for a couple of good "aftermath" episodes (finding Ursa and confronting her with Azula as the #1 plot), and fine background filler for the rest. However, it just doesn't stand up on its own as the backbone of an entire season.

No, considering what has been done in Books 1-3, and the power achieved by the characters, Book 4 would have to be really spectacular, but go off in a new way (i.e. no crazed firebenders as main villains).

Here's what we have by the end of Book 3 (and seriously, if you haven't already seen the finale, what are you doing here?):

    1. Aang can enter Avatar State at will;

    2. Trans-national order of the Masters, which might as well include Zuko, Katara & Toph;

    3. Fire Nation defeated, their greatest generals/benders either dead, imprisoned, or defected;

    4. Spirit-bending.

I think that for Book 4, Spirit bending would have been a great central theme. We have only seen a glimpse of it, but it's obviously immensely powerful and able to subvert even the most powerful bender by strength of will. We know it can take away bending skill/talent, but judging from the name, it could also be conceived to do a variety of other things, such as: returning the bending that was taken away; granting powers to people previously devoid of them; or even mental domination (think bloodbending on a mental level).

A great foil to the mighty gAang would have been someone able to use Spirit bending for evil purposes.

As this art has been forgotten ever since the first Avatar, only the spirits probably have any knowledge of it.

Of all spirits, the most sinister was Koh; he's also said to be one of the most ancient, possibly predating the Avatars. Sure, he didn't use any Spirit bending on Aang; but then again, bending doesn't work in the Spirit world, so to use it, he'd have to incarnate in the material world.

Koh is also powerful in his own right – he's probably a shapeshifter, able to turn into anyone whose face he stole. He's also probably more evil than Ozai – a creature of pure darkness and malice, ever hungry for fresh souls (or bodies?) to feed his appetite, yet intelligent enough to conceive a plot that would harm the world more than Ozai's plan – perhaps, to turn all humans into vicious predators under his control, consume their spirit energy, and set up himself as the new God/Avatar.

Combined, Spirit-bending and shapeshifting would create a very powerful opponent who could easily play to the weaknesses of the gAang – they are very strong in terms of brute force, but lack any sort of clairvoyance to track a stealthy, shapeshifting villain who uses mental domination to corrupt innocents into evil thralls. He could also free Ozai & Azula, and with the Fire Lord's bending back, these two would make great lieutenants / secondary villains, rallying some of the Fire Nation army. It would also add tension to Azula's character, who at that point might have been visited by Ursa, Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee, and would arrive at similar crossroads as Zuko in seasons 2-3. And it would give some angst to Aang, who would consider whether they were right to let Fire Nation evildoers live, now that the criminals have escaped and are at large again, as well as what to do with the new unknown menace.

    Go Book 4: Spirit!

if it wasnt for zuko asking about his mom i would have thought that wuz the end but becuz of that i'm sure theres definantly going to be another season or series. undeadprince everything u wrote is exactly what i wuz thinking especially with koh being a main antaganist he is way to sinister a villain to leave hanging around. i would love a avatar kuruk/koh showdown cuz dude seriously deserves his revenge and speaking of past avatars since we know almost everything about roku we can see the lives of other avatars or better yet the true origin of the first avatar. he wuz probably created to stop koh or something more like maybe shadowbenders. of course teranef's theorys would all totally happen and god i want azula to become a "good girl" or at least be forced to hang around team avatar, i love that evil sociopathic b word. sokka will probably feel useless again for a couple of episodes until he finds his space sword. and ZUTARA IS NOT DEAD seriously that old fourtune teller said she'd marry a powerful bender, aang is just to obvious its gotta be zuko.
