OMGosh! I JUST looked at the screen captures for the opening of the show and if you look really closely you can see THAT THE AIRBENDER HAS A BEARD!! That is SO not Aang! You know who I bet it is? I bet it's Afiko...the betrayer. He's the one who gave away the Southern Air Temples location to the Fire Lord 100 years ago! He is bald and has a beard! I bet they put that in there thinking that WE'D think it's Aang but really it's somone from Aang's past! Look closely and you'll see

heres some stuff i found out about him

Afiko, an elder Airbender monk of the Southern Air Temple, grew jealous when his peers announced Aang's identity as the Avatar. Envious, he turned traitor and revealed the temple's location to the Fire Nation. They stormed the temple and slaughtered the other monks, but were too late to catch Aang, who had run away from home shortly before. Afiko was instrumental in engineering the genocide of his fellow Air Nomads, earning a place as Fire Lord Sozin's close advisor. The traitorous monk died long before Aang's return, and the subsequent undermining of all Afiko's work.

Umm I think it's Gyatso even though he and the airbending dude don't have the same clothes.

And it's not THAT huge of a misunderstanding. I've always known it wasn't Aang.

it's kind of hard to tell though, since his face is in shadow.

i don't think it's gyatso though. it might be afiko, but i don't think so. i think his role after killing all the air benders is pretty much finished.

    except as ty-lee's ancestor.

    I always loved that theory.

But I always thought the people in the intro as ultimately the masters of that art and the teachers of Aang. (don't get me started on how Azula could teach Aang, cuz I don't really know)

What about the Earthbender in the intro, it looks like the Boulder. And you said that the benders in the intro would be Aang's bending masters, then what about Toph. I think that important benders are in the intro, not Aang's masters.

The intro guy's facial hair is different than the Boulder's, and I have faith that my theory is the writer's ambition (although I will be the first to admit that it's entirely possible that I am wrong). I think that the two kidnappers will buy Appa and trade him for Toph, and that someone at Ba Seng Sei (the guy in the intro) will finish teaching Aang.

The people in the intro are as follows: (this is just my opinion)

    Water: pakku
    Earth: unintroduced earthbender
    Fire: azula
Air: resembles several airbenders from the series, but none closely enough to be considered true.
