    There were just a few hints leading up to that scene, and it was forced that way because it was assumed that the majority of the people who watch the show don't care about that relationship and if they care about any relationship, it would be the main ones of the series.

    Can we really say that Mai will turns good so easily like Zuko has done ? Even in the beach, she acts roughly at every gesture of kindness. If Katara and Zuko can develop a better relationship, ( if I'm right about that kiss in the DOBS and I know I'm right) She wont turns on the good side, she wants to be on the Azula's side. According to the comic con panel, I think she's upset at him.
