How come Avatar doesn't reveal the character's last name?

    Avatar doesn't reveal any of the characters last name, Ozai, Zuko, Aang?

    (Maybe except for Toph)

    How many other Avatar Aangs or Fire Prince Zukos are gonna be running around?

    Serious answer is only wealthy families (like Toph) had last names in ancient times.

    Because back in the old days only wealthy people got last names.

    Rich people got last name because they were important. Over time last names started to develepod depending on where people lived (Dupont, the bridge) others started getting them depending on like people started calling you the son of John (Johnson) and so on.

    In Japan, the Royal Family never had a family name due to traditional and spiritual reasons, but the feudal lords did. So if you conclude that the Fire Nation is based primarily on Japanese culture, then the Fire Nation royal family has no last name due to spiritual and traditional reasons.

    "My name is Zuko, son of Ozai and Ursa, crown prince etc. etc."

    Toph has a family name, but, i guess they don't have a " real " family, see the irony, see it ?
