I noticed that each of the four nations, in addition to representing the four basic elements, also represent the four states of matter: Air (Gas), Water (Liquids), Earth (Solids), and Fire (Plasmas). It would be interesting if they discovered that their bending was only limited to the state of matter associated with their element, like Katara bending liquid metals like mercury, Toph bending iron, although that would kinda ruin the underlying element theme of the show and would violate the rule that metals cannot be directly 'bent', although technically they are minerals like rocks. |
That also explains how fire Benders can bend lighting, it's Plasma

Dude... I said firebenders were plasmabenders a long time ago and everyone thought I was crazy |

I don't Personally, i'm too clueless to think up any of that so you guys are all on a different page than me. I just watch the show and obsess over it, not read between the lines...lol |

Lol, same here. Hee, hee. But that is an interesting observation with the different states of matter. And it makes sense, but I don't think they'll go too in-depth with it. |

I can imagine fire being a gas. Aren't stars just really big/dense balls of gas? |
Actually, no. First off, fire is NOT matter. It is light and heat ENERGY. Not matter. 2nd, stars are the only place matter in the plasma state can be found, it dosn't happen on earth, and probably no planet, it's too hot. Stars are big balls of plasma.

Obviously wrong. Lighting is plasma. Its the only form of plasma on earth. I can actually tell you two things about fire. It is an exothermic chemical reaction that creates visible light energy and heat energy caused by reacting GASES. But is it a gas? Actually, fire is partially plasma as well. Though its a very small portion, like avogadro's number with a negative twenty three. If you want proof read the wikipedia article on fire. I normally dont trust the site, but im majoring in physics and can tell you that that info is accurate. And read the entire article, im reading this in the science of fire section. |
