Well then my eighth grade science teacher is an idiot cause he told me lightning and fire were plasma

    So what is plasma?

Whoa, thats kind of hard to explain. Wikipedia gives a great explanation for anyone in highschool physics. It basically ionizes a gas(strips an electron away) so that the negative electron and the positive ion can move freely in the same space. If you can follow that then you could probably understand the wikipedia thing. If you still dont get it PM me and maybe i can expain it better.

I think i'm starting to get it too. Hopefully it'll help me in physics... Should've tooken it over the summer rather than waste a whole year there.

Water benders can bend three states of mater, water, ice and steam. That blows your theory all on its own. That and fire isn't plasma. I cant remember exactly how it works but im fairly certain its a gas. Also if u try to use wikipedia against me here it wont work. I've seen the article before and its wrong. *Wikipedia can be altered by anyone with an account and sometimes the information is incorrect.

The first part is right by fire is not anything like a gas. fire is essentially the combination of light and heat energy. It's not matter, its pure energy. Lightning is also not plasma. Lightning is another form of intense energy caused by atmospheric friction. You see it because it is an expression of light and heat energy just like fire, but differently expressed. Your right that the form thing blew his idea out of the water. As well as the fact that magma and lava are actually liquids. Plasma is not a form of matter, there are only three forms, gas, liquid, and solid. Magma and lava are liquids with lower viscocities, meaning there less runny like water and more like mud. This is basic science, Im extremely suprised by what some people wrote.

Then why did my science teacher and my science textbook say that there are four states of matter: solid, liquid, gas and plasma !

    I'm so confused...

The book is right. Plasma is technically matter with properties of energy. also, lightning is plasma, the only natural plasma on earth. Plasma can also be found in a crooke's tube(thats spelled wrong) although its basically artificial lightning. Fire is caused by the exothermic reactions of GASES. Fire is technically a gaseous semi-plasma. Fire is considered a gas when defining it as a matter, and it is a gas that gives off energy. This is only advanced physics ppl, its not that hard. jk ;P. But im getting all this from my college textbook and Wikipedia so go look it up if you want. Although beware, it almost fried my brain and i had a professor with me. So, before anyone posts on here about fire/lightning/plasma or any combination of the three go to wikipedia.com and look up any of the three. You can then write me an apology about how foolish you were to disagree with an old lady.;P
