Firebenders flying

Could firebenders always fly or was it just during the comet?

Actually I'm starting to think that a skilled firebender could fly but in a much different way from Ozai's feet only style of flying.

If you notice Azula's flying when she snuck up on Katara she was using fire from her feet and both of her hands to maintain flight. The arms would also help in direction and stability. Now since we know that Azula is no where near as strong as Ozai is I think its a fair argument that Ozai could fly with his feet and arms all working in unison. Afterall he was strong enough in firebending to shoot lighting in one quick move.

So I still think that they can fly but its a very hard thing for them to do without a comet to help give them extra power... and again look at the skill he had at flying... he had to have had experience doing it before because when he was fighting Aang was the only time he ever did it during the comet.

I think it's like concept of little short distance jet packs. But the comet/skilled firebenders can fly...I guess. I don't know. I'm no expert xD

Ya it's kinda lame tho cuz flying is supposed to be a air thing. BTW- nice sig- Twilight, right?

Still, it made for a great scene where Crazy Avatar Elemental Gyroscope of Doom!Aang was chasing Sozin's Comet Powered Phoenix King!Ozai. That was my favourite scene in the finale.

it would explain how the firebenders got to the southern airtemple. remember aang says in eppie three that firebenders can't make it up there that one needs a flying bison.

Personally.. I think true firebending masters (Ozai, Jeong Jeong, Iroh etc.) can fly without the comet, but it is way way harder.

I agree. I think that they can fly without the comet, but the comet really helped them a lot. Without the comet, I don't think they can fly very well or for very long.

Azula was definitely flying in TBR and TSR but she couldn't maintain it for a long time. And judging by the way Ozai was flying, he definitely had some practice BEFORE the comet.

The air nomads were attacked on the day of Sozin's Comet. I think with the strength of 100 suns the soldiers could fly if they gave it their all. It would've been a piece of cake for Sozin himself, and if you remember the size of the wave of fire Ozai was shooting out at the land, it wouldn't have been hard to just wipe out the air nomads in one fell swoop. Get three more firebending masters with some backup in the other airbending temples and boom. Bye bye air nomads.

I was just thinking; If shooting lots of fire can make firebenders fly, then that would mean Newton's (second?) law is in effect (every action has an equal/opposite reaction). What I'm getting at is, why wasn't Ozai sent flying backwards when creating the giant wave of fire?

It's just a cartoon, Koala, you're thinking too hard.

Beats me. That's actually a very good point. I'm stumped.

This isn't earth, plus Newton never lived there lol!

Didn't you notice people living after falling off a 50 feet wall?

I'm not saying this is Earth, I'm saying that based on what I've seen it has similar laws of physics.
