Do You Think Katara Is Annoying?

    Why is it that someone has to have some weird power or personality quirk for you people to like them? My God, if they're not either clinically depressed or acting like they are constantly on Red Bull, you hate them. What is that? The whole reason that Katara is such a great character is that she is ordinary. No agsty hidden secrets, no obnoxious hyperactivity. She has a good personality, and she actually treats people like people, and she is obviously a strong young women. She is straightforward; what you see is what you get. Heck, we need someone to keep the sanity on the show. That's Katara's job, considering everyone else is legally insane half the time.

    The fact that she isn't perfect is also what makes her great. Like her obsessive compulsive behavior towards fortune telling in episode fourteen. Her shortcomings make her seem more real, not painted with weird personality idiosyncrasies necessary to hide the lack of a real personality like Sokka.

    Point is, as much of a loner I am here, no, I don't think Katara is annoying in the least.

    You're not alone. And though I will admit that Katara sometimes has her selfish side...I frankly I also tire of people hating on katara for all sorts of inconsistent reasons and or reasons not applicable to anything.

    First they hate her for "being weak" and or crying when she gets hurt or something...

    Then they hate her for being "too powerful" and or "having a temper" when she gets angry.

    *sigh* fangirl jealousy is a strange thing. @__@

    *laughs* yeah, I know. I mean, come on here, people, if you're going to be condenscending and demeaning, at least be consistant in the manner in which you do it. I mean, come on, if you hate every person who has a temper when they get angry you hate about 96.8% of the population, now, don't you? Stay consistant and be resonable. Not that hard. Try it sometime.

    Bluemoon11, I don't know if you were joking when you asked this question. If you were actually serious, here's some advice for you: in the future read the posts carefully before you start attacking them.

    You misunderstood my post entirely. I was simply adding to Toongal's point. That whole "cyber shouting" was in reference of the fear of this topic developing that way while mocking some people who tend to throw cyber tantrums when everybody doesn't agree with them. There are folks like that you know.

    If somebody thinks Katara's annoying, then that's their opinion. You don't have to agree with them and if you like her, then good for you. Just understand that not everyone will think same way.
    Furthermore, whether you beleieve it or not, there are some people just like Sokka. All of the characters have some trait (or more)that we can relate to. It's those relations that make them more real, likeable and even annoying at times. That's just the way it works.

    of course people are welcome to criticize a character and/or their questionable actions and/or how people overly emulate them in a certain way.

    Criticizing how Katara's attitute is placed and how she acts in certain situations is one thing, but outright vehemence and character bashing and immature posts to try to get others to side with someone who has some sort of grudge against an animated character is another, which is somehow I hope this thread was not about, but unfortunately turned out to be.

    Though...I think the criticisms about Sokka were probably made prior to the later eps of Season 1.

    Eheh, that's just what I think though ^_^;

    I agree. On most other shows I've seen, the main characters all have the same basic personality, just slight twists here and there. I don't find Katara annoying at all.

    I think there were very few posts from anybody blatantly bashing Katara's character (she's boring, she's a nobody, etc). In addition, I didn't read any posts from anyone here getting anyone else to side with their views. What I saw was alot of people in this topic agreeing to disagree, even though there were differences in opinions on whether or not they found Katara annoying.

    That's only what I think though.

    Definitely. What's great about this show is the diversity and complexity of the characters. For example Aang can have moments of intense wisdom, maturity and ability, and other times he can be reckless, immature, and naive. Sokka even switched it up in Warriors of Kyoshi and the last few episodes of season one, showing sincerity and emotion.

    The same is true of Katara. Yes I've been annoyed with her at times (episodes Jet, The Waterbending Scroll, and The Fortuneteller to name a few) but I've never even considered her to be an annoying character before coming across this thread. I love Katara, even on those few occasions that she's been annoying.

    Katara does get a little emotional at times but I see that as normal for most girls. I think it's no big deal.

    Well in my opinion, I don't think Katara is annoying at all. I mean sumtimes she makes mistakes (Jet, The Waterbending Scroll) but Aang and Sokka make mistakes all the time too, I'd name the episodes but I'm just not in the mood lol. Anyway Katara is a strong willed, this is who i am like it or not, kind of person and I like her for that cuz she kicks some serious arse and is always there to cheer up Aang and say something funny to annoy Sokka. If she weren't in this show I probably wouldn't watch.....and the creators would be sued for making all the main characters boys lol.

    I think Katara is okay. Kind of sad though, she's the only main female character we've seen on the show so far.

    She reminds me of the popular girl at times. Pretty, sweet, and great social skills. Waterbending is her cheerleading. XD She knows how to rally people's spirits, don't cheerleaders do that at football games? Only it's war instead of sports!

    Cheerleading for popular girls is only in the movies. That doesn't mean no popular girls cheerlead, some do, but the most popular don't (it's wierd, I've found that mostly dorks cheerlead (as I've seen by girls my age)).

    Bah, they do a good job as freaking us out at the football games, I think we do more worrying about them falling than being riled up. don't get me wrong they do a good job with there stunts, but they have dropped people from really high and its damn scary. last year we had two male cheerleaders on the team that where really good at catching and holding them up, but there graduated now and were back to saying prayers... wow I really got off topic, sorry about that

    I am just going to post how annoying I find Katara, and I really don't care what any of you Katara lovers think. First off, Katara is always viewed as beautiful right, cause Aang, Haru, and Jet fall for her like at first sight. That would never happen to anyone, yet she has a total of FOUR hot guys as potential love interests. She tries to be the mother hen, the annoying mother hen of the group. She flips her lid all the time, and she can be jealous to such a degree she steals. And it's like a Mary Sue situtaion, if a Mary Sue does something wrong, she's never blamed for it and is immediately forgiven, same thing with Katara. And in the Deserters, she got to be the princess and acted like a damsel in distress, she laughed at Aang, and was such a wimp when her hands got burned. And I know that must have hurt alot, it's just the way she reacted and was crying that ticked me off, and she even got a RARE new power. She spurns Aang's affections when it is so annoyingly obvious that he loves her, and yet she's too stupid to figure out something so, again, obvious. She became a master even though she only trained for at least a few days, yet she defeated at least a dozen pupils who must have trained for years. And now in season two, she's become even more annoying. She's a damsel in distress in the Avatar State, she is again playing stupid brat with flowers in her hair in the Cave episode, and she's just a Mary Sue in Return to Omashu. She's become a Bending Master in a matter of days, has four hot guy possibilites, is a witch to Sokka in "Jet" and is again a brat, and I wish I could swear because no proper words can express my hatred towards Katara. Haru, Jet, and especially Zuko and Aang are too good for her, except Jet. That slime weasel is perfect for her... thank you.
