That being said, I will do my best to be a wise, kind, polite poster.

That thread is definitely hall of shame worthy.
    Yep. I agree.
Sorry, but who was the troll? And could someone please answer my question? "What good is it to be a DOD? What do you get out of it?" Please and Thank You.
owlism (in the case of Avatar forum and hopefully the whole TV com community)is a commitment by the poster that he(or she) would do the utmost to be a wise, nice, thoughtful poster. the opposite of a troll. in the case of DOD it is a recognition by fellow forum members that the person voted as disciple shows the signs of owlism and is deserving to be a spokesperson of what it is an OWL and is also a great responsibility of the disciple to stay within what an OWL is supposed to be

I think the problem now is that there are no rules or guidelines to what makes someone a "wise, nice, and thoughtful poster". In other words the description is too general. In Lisa's case the problem is that that she is worried about being too opinionated for an OWL. Other questions include, how to handle "Noobs", duplicate threads, trolls, etc. There is also no way to hold the OWLs accountable if someone does dissrespect another user since there is nothing to define what is a respectful post.

The rules of tv.com also need to be taken into account and the OWLs need to decide if it is important for OWLs to follow these rules as well. I find it disturbing that the mods had to create a seperate thread just to warn us about posting offensive images. Somebody need to make sure that OWLs are posting respectfully because if an OWL was to post a dissrespectful picture or do something else dissrespectful it would make the other OWLs look bad. I'm not saying any OWLs have done something wrong but I have seen quite a bit of dissrespectful posting recently. The OWLs have gotten off to a good start but there needs to be clearer guidelines to what an OWL can and cant post.

the biggest issue from what the mod wrote is that sometimes(besides the intentionally disrespectful image) the images we posts from a "non-reliable" host can be changed into something else, and we end up paying for something we didn't intend, so think twice before posting someone's else image

I think I saw the thread that prompted the mod's stickied warning about posting offensive images on the forum. It was NarutoAvatarDBZ's thread and he was frankly horrified that his image suddenly morphed into the pornographic ick that appeared. So I think the mod was giving everyone a heads up about hotlinking and letting us know that it cannot be used as excuse to buy your way out of a ban if your image suddenly goes rated XXX.

Doc is right about my concerns about being too mouthy to be an OWList.

Well, I suppose an OWL has every right to be opinionated, as long as you don't bluntly shoot down someone else's ideas or something. Quite frankly, I don't think I've ever seen you post anything remotely un-OWLish ^^

There are two sides to the argument.

On one hand since the Dicsiples of the Dragon are considered to be sort of the leaders of the OWLs and it is important that they dont go around giving the others a bad name. Some users could take her opinons and say they reflect the ideas of all OWLs.

On the other hand you have every right to voice your opinion as a forum user. Posting opinions and posting wisely and respectively are not mutally exclusive, it is possible to do both. I dont see a problem since just about all of Lisa's posts are very wise and very well thought out and in my experience she has been very respective of other forum users.

I dont see any reason for Lisa to resign her position as long as she doesn't violate the core rule of being a wise and thoughtful poster or if she feels that there is a specific issue or opinion that has gotten out of hand.

All OWLs have a right to their opinions but there needs to be a way to differentiate wise respectful opinions from opinions that could possibly hurt the reputation of the OWLs. This is why there needs to be more or clearer guidelines to what exactly a "wise and thoughtful post" should look like. There also needs to be a way to hold the leaders accountable if some do start posting disrespectfully. Controlling every single OWL is more difficult since anyone can choose to be an OWL.

You mean 'I'm posting in this thread before it has had its status changed to 'locked' and therefore cannot be posted in' (but shorter)?

How long would you get suspended for saying the forbidden phrase? I'm curious about that...
