I'm new here, and I saw this thread, and I must ask what is the point of it? What exactly do you guys do? I mean you have absolutely no power over the forum, or any power really. You're all just regular posters like the rest of us, so why do you guys have your own thread (where you guys do nothing) that is pinned?

It's more more of an honorary thing; the people who have been elected as DoDs are people who have proven themselves to be thoughtful, intelligent posters who we know that we can count upon to contribute well to the forum. Bear in mind that the Disciples are aslo on the Refuge, and as such not many of them still visit this place; that is where the Loyalist Committee comes in.

So basically a thread to honour fellow forum members? Does this really warrant it's own thread though? I've been looking around, and this thread would go perfectly in the Off-Topic Forum TV.com has. As for the "Refuge" I don't know what that is.

The honor is only part of it. This thread is basically a testimony to the hard work of the Disciples.

The Refuge is the Avatar fandom's answer to the Freemasons.

"Testimony to the hard work" Umm what exactly do they do, that requires a testimony for?
We battle the evil forces of tyranny of the trolls that seek to tear apart the family of Avatards that assemble here by posting messages that disrupt the tranquility of this forum. Our weapons are words that are wise and thoughtful so that we may build strong relationships with our fellow Avatards as well as grow our family by politely welcoming and instructing the new users that come here.

Believe it or not, not everyone follows common courtesy, especially on the internet. It has been a particular problem for this forum. Then there are the trolls who flame and insult people for no good reason If you dont believe things have gotten that bad here I suggest you look through the thread pinned/locked by DANMOD.

Common courtesy should be common, and doesn't really warrant it's own thread. It's not like you guys do extraordinary things, you're just helpful, and that should be common amongst all members.

Though I do see the need and importance of such a place, maybe we could put it in the Off-Topic forum, so that more people can know of, and hopefully be OWLs and not just Avatards. Also we shouldn't have elections, it makes it seem like certain members have superiority above other users, when that simply isn't the case.

Common courtesy should be as common as common sense, but how common are the two? Yeah, not very common. The two phrases are misnomers. I personally think they should be phrased: should be commense sense, but it is not...or should be common courtesy, but it is not.

Actually by having the elections and getting an opportunity to be recognised by other users as thoughtful poster is a pretty high honour and something many Avatards work towards. We know that they don't have superior powers but when you see a disciple most users respect them for that fact.

Yea I scanned that topic really quick, and it seems like both sides are being unreasonable. He's obviously upset about everyone blaming him for everything that goes wrong, and I think he shoulda just made a blog instead of a topic, that shows he's egotistical, I mean everyone else rants through blogs, but not him.

The members for the most part, weren't understanding at all though, and didn't take into consideration that TV.com is fairly big and he can't familiarize himself with each forum. Not to mention, that our apparent absentee editor doesn't know the true power he has as a Mod.

But, one member I liked was Wiselad, he is well wise. His ideas are very good, and were well expressed to bad danmod ignored him.

So basically both sides (with the exception of few) didn't have courtesy, and failed to sympathize for the other side. And that my friend almost always starts wars.

It is not the case. Anybody who posts regularly on this forum can be nomiated for the elections, provided that the nominator can provide a good reason as to why that person should be nominated. Anyone can be an OWL - DoDs are the OWLs that we feel deserve to be commended for their efforts.

The DoDs have done a lot of good. If nothing else, they set an example to others, an ideal of sorts. People like Lisa (recently banned) had a true presence on this forum, one that had an incredibly uplifting effect on many.

Also note that being a DoD is by no means a permanent thing. DoDs who are felt to be failing to live up to their avowed standards do not remain DoDs for long.

Wiselad is a shining example of why having Disciples of the Dragon is a good thing.

Not everyone goes to the Off Topic forum, and serves as a place where Avatards can disscuss things besides Avatar and the Forum (for the most part).

We just dont have elections, we have nominations before electing new members. Other forum users nominate others based on their posting history, not because of our popularity. Disciples of the Dragons are not meant to be selected by popular vote, they are selected by other users as "honorary" leaders of the forum. If other users didn't want us to have the title "Disciple of the Dragon" they wouldn't have nominated us and elected us.

Us disciples do not force anyone to do anything, we are simply here to set an example for the rest of the forum and by no means do we try to control others or enforce superiority over others. Also, anyone can gain the title"Disciple of the Dragon" and will ultimatley be given to anyone who deserves it.

You know, i just thought of something, if we all make recaps of every episode, and look for stuff to add to the notes/allusions/trivia sections and quotes that haven't been added, make them into word documents and send them to one guy so he can add them all, we could have a new editor, someone who can be here most of the time, and that knows how this forum could be better, like WiseLad, how about it?

The editor also has power over the boards, like pinning topics, locking/deleting threads, and altough he doesn't have the power to ban, i'm almost sure that if he mods a comment it will get read sooner. (not sure about the last one though)

I'm pretty sure he has the power of deleting comments, and threads. In fact he has almost all the power a Mod would, but only for that particular forum.

High00Lord can Lock threads and delete reported posts. He cannot delete threads, that power is reserved for the big guys like Danmod and the other staff members/moderators.

Well locking threads is sufficient, I'm thinking if we had a more involved editor that this place wouldn't be so bad.

I kinda did like a flashback to learn more about this place, and looked at a few threads on the waaay back pages. That Pooldude fellow seemed like a good editor, why and when did he retire?
