Well I think the reason Azula thought Ursa didn't like her was because all her life Ozai would be there and spoil her and give her what ever she wanted but Ursa was more of a loving parent who just wanted Azula to have a happy life and Azula misinturperated her concern and frustration at her behavior as hate. I bet if Ozai had never been there Azula would have had a much happier life and wouldnt have broken into insanity. if another episode or season is ever released i woulod hope that Azula would turn good and apologize for her past sins. I saw her how Ursa saw her. A confused girl who was raised to believe something and suddenly began to realize it wasn't true. Being shut up in a palace all your life has got to have serious repurcutions on a persons mind. never being able to experience the world first hand like Zuko did.

The only reason I think there is something there was because of the scene with her mother. The way she reacted to her mother's words (more so if the entire part was just in her head) and the fact that she started to cry after made me think there might have been regrette. I don't deny that she's just like her father (just less stable I believe) but her mother was part of her life and there coud have had some impact, none of which mattered in the end considering for the majority of her life, her father has been her pillar parent it seems. That and the fact that Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her honestly seemed to bother her greatly.

I think the didn't understand why her mother loved her, because she couldn't understand that kind of honest bond.

How is that justice? It's no more justice then a sea otter strangling itself for thrashing around in a fishing net, or a dog getting hit by a car for not paying attention.

I think she was spoiled by her father. She was a "fire bending prodigy." As such, her father gave her lots of attention and told her he was proud of her.

When her mother didn't give her that kind of attention she probably felt like something was wrong, when she was just trying to make up for the fact that Zuko's father didn't like him as much.

It was her own fault for not being able to trust anyone... if she had been a real friend to Ty Lee and Mai, none of the betrayels would have happened. she even admitted that her so called friendships are carved out of fear... not trust. so if she couldn't trust people in the first place, then why would they have a reason to trust her. and she was the one banishing everyone for no reason and these are the same people who had claimed loyalty to her. and to lose everything is not an excuse for Azula... Zuko had lost everything as well but he was able to create a better life for himself.

It was actually NOT her fault because she never had the abaility to trust anyone because her brain misinterprits trust and fear, thusly the cause of her need for constant control. She's a product of her enviorment. Zuko on the other hand, after being banished had someone supportive and understanding (iroh) and was exposed to the outside world and being treated as a private citizen which gave him room for growth.

But even though Zuko had Iroh, in the end he had made the decision to betray Iroh to regain his honor back on the throne. And it was his own decision in DoBS to follow his own destiny and help the Avatar. Even Iroh had said that he was happy that Zuko had found his own path by himself. And Zuko had grown up with the same father and mother as Azula. Azula chose to be like her father. She also had the choice to be caring like her mother but did not choose to do so. When Ursa was banished Zuko was raised in the same place as Azula with the same father. But even then we can infer that Zuko had a heart... that is why he spoke up against the General in the war meeting that ultimately led to his banishment. So it does not matter what the environment was because Zuko and Azula had the same environment, but even then Zuko chose to be caring... to stand up for what he thought was right. Azula chose to be the monster she became... to be perceived as perfect. Azula was free to make her own decisions as her brother. Azula knows what trust is and what fear is. And Azula chose fear to rule others.

zuko was exposed to life as a private citizen and azula wasn't. Also azula was always her father's favorite so the thought of speaking out against him would never even cross her mind because to her, he is a god.

I for one, did really feel bad for her.

Such a powerful and extraordinary character..

Just because the fact, that it was Ozai's fault that Azula turned out the crazy power-hungry-b*tch she is made me feel sorry for her.
And made me really want that Aang wouldn't have showed Ozai mercy.
After all.. it's all Ozais fault..

But that is all Azula's choice. Azula is smart... she knows how to make her own decisions and she chose to make her father happy and follow in his footsteps. And even though Zuko was exposed to life in a different way, in the end it was always his own decision. And even before the banishment and traveling in the Earth Kingdom, Zuko already knew right from wrong thus he spoke out in the war meeting. Even Zuko had figured out right and wrong at an early age when his mother was no longer present in his life and his own father didn't care much for him. Even in his childhood, Zuko's environment was far much worst than Azula's but Zuko still knew what was right and what was wrong. If Zuko can do that, then so can Azula.

Zuko was under the influence of Iroh.. who was the real do-gooder of the series imo.
While as Azula on the other hand was under the influence of Ozai.. who was a prick.

but throughout Iroh's influence Zuko has always made his own decisions no matter what. Iroh had told Zuko not to go into the war meeting but he went anyways and chose to speak up for the soldiers. Iroh had showed Zuko around The Earth Kingdom but even in the end Zuko chose to betray the Avatar and side with Azula. I admit that Iroh and Ozai's influences over Zuko and Azula play a major role but in the end, it will always be the two's own decisions to follow the path they choose to.

But they're decisions will be influenced by their previous lives.

Lets say that you're a kid, who's always been taught by their mom not to take candy from strangers. Would you take candy from a cloaked figure from an un-licenseplated van ? Ofcourse you wouldn't. You would run away.
Now lets say that you're a kid, who's never really gotten any attention from your parents. You don't see anything bad in that cloaked figure. You agree to take the candy..

Not the best example, but I tried atleast.
Point is - The way that we think is strongly influenced by the way we grow up.

but remember, the Royal Fire Nation family used to be happy once. whose to say that Ursa didn't have any influence on Azula... maybe Azula chose not to listen to her. And who says Iroh never tried his best to be a good Uncle to Azula either... maybe he tried but Azula just saw him as weak and not bothered to listen to him. Azula chose to listen to her father. She wanted to be raised by him. It is her own choice to be seen as the best, to be the fire bending prodigy that she became.

Azula was always kept close at Ozai's side, to impress Azulon and for other various reasons.
Ozai saw the gift in her, and right from the start started corrupting her, passing down his own morals to her.

Thats what I think anyways, you don't have to agree.

but the thing is I don't even think she knew any better. She was raised with that one ideal, and she is her father's clone. she has no sense of right from wrong, she can't feel remourse and is scared by it.
