If that's true, that's a duplicate of the finale to Season I

Sokka's love dying during the finale = Yue
Spirit being in peril = the spirit of the moon
Key figure of the Fire Nation defeated = Zhao
Last 15 seconds introduce the next villain = Azula

Which is the reason why I'm not believing such rumors!

Anyway, are you sure, the one who brought up this rumor, that it wasn't an old statement about the seaon one finale? Because I'm pretty sure only one of those will happen (only part of it anyway).
And that one being Azula defeated. Why? Because for season three, they have to get her out of the way for the main villain: Ozai. Of course, this could easily happen in the beginning of season three, but it is a powerful moment that might be nice for a finale. This would mean that Zuko will have to undergo some huge transformation and learn some new firebending moves, because he is the one that should defeat Azula in the end.

Chapter 1 and 2: introduces new enemies (Zuko for 1??and Azula for 2 ); Aang bends element for first time in Avatar State; life changing event for Zuko and Iroh
Chapter 3: Aang returns to some place; first fight with a new ememy (Zuko vs. Zhao and Aang vs. Azula)
Chapter 8: Some sort of chase and big battle involved with a high fire nation official and Zuko
Chapter 9: Aang bends element for the first time in regular state
Chapter 11: traveling to Ba Sing Se; kind of boring episodes
