She could feel the vibrations from when the 'benders made them, and guess/figured the spot they were coming from. Also, she can feel earth and all sorts of vibrations, and who's to say she can't feel changes in air pressure too, which would probably have been disturbed by the flying rock-gloves. |
i dont think she can feel air pressure.?? the only reason she can feel the earth like that is because she is an earthbender, and she felt their motions and knew generally where the gloves were.

Alright listen, maybe the hands were in the air, but she could still "feel" them because she can control earth. It's just like a waterbender can "feel" the push and pull of water even when it's not touching them. The rock hands came towards here, and she could feel it because when she used her power she could feel the matter's resistance. She could "feel" that there was something controlable in the air, thus she could control it. I suspect the same is true with firebenders too; since they can control fire they can feel it through their power, and thus manipulate it. With airbenders it might be different because they are ALWAYS touching air (except when entirely underwater). |

I got it! Toph makes these ultra-sonic clicking noises with her teeth only audible her (as well as rodents and cetaceans) she then uses the echoes of the sound bouncing off people and objects to track their position, movement and speed via Doppler shift. Did I mention she also sleeps upside-down? |
Well they did come from the ground so she probably sensed what it looked like and heard them approaching her
Do waterbenders have to be in contact with their element then?? Airbenders? Fire??
Few rules can pertain ONLY to one element...
