Yeah, he kicked arse as the blue spirit because he was like a ninja and ninjas are cool. Hopefully his giving up on the Blue was for the better, and in calming his inner turmoil, maybe he can start to bend lightning.

everything zuko does seems to be very symbolic about his inner turmoil. Like when he cut his top knot, that was him letting go of his search for the avatar, and becoming more mature. His fighting was tight when he was the blue spirit, but it was still pretty cool when he fought Jet maskless

side note: no one seemed to think that zuko's skill was that unusual, he pulled off some pretty cool stunts

I think that the Blue Spirit is going to come back at some point. Many other shows, movies, comic books etc. have had a very similar situation as this one. Someone has an alternate identity which they then reject(often by throwing the costume into a body of water) The identity almost always comes back. In conclusion, the Blue Spirit is coming back. Thank you and good night!

I don't get why he dumped the mask. Couldn't he have gone 'Robin Hood' on us and started helping people as Blue?? I mean, Blue could do things that Zuko ((for obvious and not-so obvious reasons)) can't do! I think they WILL bring Blue Spirit back!!

What's he gonna do? Swim to the bottom of the lake and digit out of the sediment?
I know, he'll invent a metal detector!(assuming the mask is metal).

If you remember from The Swamp, they were selling the mask off a cart, Zuko wouldnt have much trouble getting another one. I wouldnt be fully surprised if the BS returned, but I rather he didnt, I think they should just have Zuko move on

I don't know why, but I have this strange feeling that someone is going to find the mask, like it might get filtered into the chambers underneath Lake Laogai.?? I don't know, that might sound stupid.?? But I do think that by giving up the mask he is letting go of his past.

Dumping the mask was a huge step in Zuko's character developent. With the Blue Spirit he was able to do good deeds without dishonorhing his identity. He can now do good as Zuko, not as a nameless, blue mask. I agree that the Blue Spirit will come back, but I think it will be someone else behind the mask. Similar to the RedX situation from Teen Titans.

i think so too. it's kind of sad. i agreed with iroh whole-heartedly about ditching his obsession over catching the avatar. it was only going to give him greif, since his father wouldn't have let him come home anyway. but still. it's kind of like if bruce wayne suddenly announced he wasn't going to be batman anymore. it's like he was always kind of a ruthless typical fire bender before the Blue Spirit episode, but when he was the blue spirit, it seemed more like he didn't need to be a firebender, he didn't need all those things he had in the fire nation that he wanted back so badly in order to be a good fighter.

The mask represebts everything that Zuko was, and how his life was so bent on capturing the Avatar. By giving the mask up, it symbolizes him getting ready to move onto a new life. All of those talks with Iroh weren't for nothing.

Anyway, as the Blue Spirit, he was NOT a ninja. Ninjas are thieves and assassins, climb on walls, have a whole style of martial arts as their own, (Ninjitsu) and throw shurukin. (spl?) He was the Blue Spirit, based on helping himself out, and sneaking around the Fire Nation camps to search for the Avatar, not to steal anything or assassinate anyone. Most likely, the creators and Sifu Kitsu did not base his style off of Ninjitsu, but rather the twin dao form of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu which is what firebending is based off of.

yeah, but think about it. it's hard to be a good fighter when people see your face. picture some random bad guy, robbing some old lady for her purse, and then the cops show up. the dude's gonna run, naturally, but he's not going to be afraid of the police. he's not going to be afraid of average humans, who can be hurt, especially if this particular old-lady-robber happens to have a gun. now picture that same robber, and then out of no where, a guy in a mask with twin blades jumps out of the shadows. it's a lot more intimidating. bad guys would be more afraid of figures, you know? symbols. something they can't explain. something they can't understand. every battle is half mental. and it's hard to psych out some guy with a gun when he can see your face and he knows your only human.

like, do you remember the first time you saw the blue spirit episode? zuko was hiding under the cart and he snuck into the fire nation place? only we didn't know it was zuko, so it was much more . . . i don't know. more intimidating.

    Blue Spirit
    Avatar Day
    Lake Laogai

there was one more but he only showed up in the mask at the very end for like 3 seconds

I'm almost certain we will see the Blue Spirit in some way shape or form. Remember Koh the face stealer from Seige of the North...one of the faces he wore was identical to the blue spirit mask.

This was indeed a huge step in his character, up till now he used the mask to commit crimes, not good deeds afterall.

His first time wasn't to free Aang, but capture him himself

He used it to mug the twin swords from a soldier (and presumably any other times he stole anything)

He used it to try to abduct Appa, in an attempt to capture Aang.

Him dumping the mask is a clear sign he's letting go of his selfish desires.

The mask was sometimes used for selfish desires, but there were instances of him using it for good. He got his uncle all sorts of nice things. Mind you, he stole them, but his heart was in the right place. Also, when he retrived Aang, he may have been doing it for selfish reasons, but in doing so he was disobeying a direct order from an institution that he probably, realized subconsiously was immoral. He also used the Blue Spirit persona, to enact his revenge, on the man that humiliated his uncle.

Stealing things for his Uncle is still thievery, he wasn't helping the needy here.

He went for Aang because if he wasn't the one to capture him, then his father would never allow him to return

Enacting revenge isn't noble either, nor is stealing the guys swords in the proces.

The Blue Spirit identity was used by Zuko to commit crimes, so him throwing the mask away shows he's giving up being nothing more then his fathers pawn and doing whatever it takes to get the Avatar.
