I think since 99% of all benders never even come close to what the main characters could do, and even the main characters can be beaten by a guy just wielding a sword(Piandao, or Mai, who can match declared masters of bending without even using their full potential), they wouldn't be that useful.

Anything they do in the show is easily outdone by technology today. Warballon squad vs Aircraft carrier equipped with jet fighters armed with high powered missles.

    You be the judge.

Air would be cool cuz you could fly, water you could get ppl wet but that's about it (so if a girl is wearing a white t-shirt...), Fire would be dangerous and they wouldn't need a weapon and earth would cause so much damage to public property

    Yea just wet people /sarcasm

With water you could turn it to ice and shoot them like darts, you could use water to slice through one's head, you could use it like "bloodbending" and other such things.

With fire you don't need weapons? Yea sure, because fire>guns

only the average person couldn't do any of that, you would need to be like a monk to do those things

Really? Katara in early part of season 1, turned water into ice and she barely knew how to water bend..

The Second Sign is right. Nuclear bombs>elemental bending. Sorry, but bending any type of element just won't be powerful enough. With firebending, we can make flamethrowers that throw 10X as much power. With earth bending, we can just blow up the dirt. With air bending, we'll just make heavier tanks. With water bending, well, I'm not sure. But we'll attack them before they have the chance to attack us. The military weapons we have now are much more lethal than any type of bending.

Judging by how much murder, law breakiners and violence in the world today, there would be waaaaaaaay too many laws about how and how not to use any type of bending. Bloodbending would be illegal unless it's being used for military purposes, there'd be a lot of limits to how firebending could be used, so would earthbending. water and airbending might not be as leathal but they'd probably still have some laws too. in fact there'd be so many bending laws tht there'd be not point in bending

I think the TC is talking about, not using bending as fighting, but using it in everday life. Earth, you can help with architecture and build some buildings. Fire, using it to put out a fire??(or would that be water?) And air, um, no clue. Blow dry??

    Counters to technology:

Heat from Firebending to scramble electronics or heat up/ melt weapons. Also, the raised temperatures could prove to be an issue.

Earthbending to see particles or Waterbending and Ice crystals to seep in and damage electronics.

Airbending vs technology: How can you fire a gun or use missles if you can't breath right or are being thrown around in the air or pinned to a wall by wind?

Plus, even with the best protective armor today, it still is not 100% effective.

As for the Avatar-verse technology, it's supposed to be behind what we have today.

It would ultimately be a matter of skill and creative thinking rather than power and arsenal.

Those are not counters to technology. We have aircraft capable of destroying small cities in 30 seconds from takeoff to the drop of the payload, and missle guided satellites capable of destroying world economy leading cities in 2 minutes.
