Azula's only fourteen years old??? What???? I knew she was younger than Zuko, but I couldn't help picturing her as an 18 - 17 year old.?? She's smart and mature, and just doesn't seem to be the same age as me.?? I'm not saying I'm immature, but she just doesn't look or act her age.?? I'm probably a half a year older than she is.?? Has anyone else been bothered by this?

I think there have been some mentions of it, and I checked on trusty wikipedia. Yes, I know it can be changed and everything, but many other sites also say she's fourteen. Even if she were 15, that would still be weird.

I make new forums about people because most of the time when you post a new idea on a character forum, it gets about one reply, then gets pushed off to the side. I want people to really respond to what I have to say. And this isn't really a question. Yes, Azula is fourteen. I want to talk about that, not just have someone tell me that she is fourteen.

Yeah that really bothers my. She looks like 17-19. There is no way she looks as as young as Katara. Nor physically or on attitude.

Well, Azula is Zuko's younger sister, so I don't find it that hard to believe, even if her physical or mental attitude don't fit it.

They all seem older than they are to me ( with the exclusion of Aang. He seems 12). I guess I just have a hard time believing these characters are up to 5 years younger than me... man I feel old...

PrimoNation I appreciate what your trying to do for this site, but please not every discussion falls into a certian catagory. This one is simply about Azula's age not reflecting her maturity, cunning, etc. All I am asking is please lighten up on the directory thing, new topic's are not a big problem as they quickly fall if there not important. Anyway back to Azula:
It is very disturbing that she is this evil and cunning at 14. Although this does seem to be a theme in Avatar, Aang is serious now. Katara, Sokka, and Zuko also seem very mature for their age. I think this is due to them being in the middle of a war and having to step up to the challange. It is just more noticable in Azula becuase she is an evil little demon.

and I agree... but this is a question about a character and this character happens to have there very own discussion thread... and when??we see how many threads are started to just simply die away you want to make things easier for when you do??have to sift thru them to get to the ones that don't have nonsense on them...

so you see, this could have been addressed there and it would keep all comments in a central location for any newcomers to review and maybe actually get educated on the show instead of reading 10 threads on the same person where??half the message inputs??may read something likes this: ??"this is a duplicate" to "I already posted my opinion on this thread.." to "can't we just get along"....

But hey... all I'm gonna do is point people to the central location when I??think (in my??opinion) it might be applicable, I'm not into 'downing' them or carrying on conversations anymore and well as the saying goes, some people don't like the duplicate threads and some don't like the links to similar threads... it is what it is

    What I've noticed:
Toph, 12 years old and wanting to discover herself
Southern Water Tribe boys first go Ice Dodging at 14
Air Nomad avatars are informed of their status at 16
Iroh allowed Zuko to audit a military stratagem though he was only about 14

The rights, responsibilities and expectations in the AtLA world are two years ahead of life as I have come to understand it in my life and the lives of my peers growing up.

When they die away, they sorta get pushed to the bottom of the forum. There's no sifting involved

way back in history it was quite common for what we might consider young adults or teens to be given adult responsibilities. Note how common marriage was at 14 and 16 not to long ago (reletively speaking)

As for Azula, I think she is probably closer to 15 at this point in the series. At the begining of Book 1 Zuko was 15, by now he should be 16...so depending on how far appart they are Azula could be 15 by now.
Even so, 14-15, isn't that much a differenc. And either way Azula certainly acts far more mature, commanding high ranking military officers around like nothing and just her overall air of authority.

But hey, thats what being a Princess does to you sometimes, having all that power and responsibility would likely cause her to grow faster, not only that, but she could also be a sociopath.

cant really tell by azula's looks but her evilness definitely makes her seem older than she really is

Definity, that responsiablilty can make someone grow faster. If you're evil and your dad is evil, I wont expect his dad to spoil her. She was expected to be commanding and powerful as her dad, that probably made her grow faster. Also, as someone mentioned, in old community, teens were expected to be adult by the age of 14+. They were often married around the age because they had the ability to bare child and people dont live very long live back then.

I guess i could say that evil also contributed to her maturity. Evil being were often protrayed as smart and intelligent. That could had an effect on her maturity. The reason that i believe the creator protrayed Azula so mature was to make her more of a threat. If she was immature and whining about failure, it wont excatly made her a dangerous enermy. If so, where she was set to be 14? The answer was probably to make Zuko to look more of a failure. To had a younger sister who is more powerful and mature than him.

Or this whole this is a carless mistake of the creator. He could have created Zuko before Azula. But he probably realized making a new villin who is older than the Avatar by more than 4 year of age is too much. If Azula had the age of 17, she wont be a young teen anymore and won't relate to the younger adience of Avatar. Also it will make her seem weaker, because she was older and have more experience with the element, it won't surprise people how strong she is.

p.s: Primonation, We all know about your great diccionary. We dont need your advertisment in every post. Let the people judge which post is a duplicate or not. If it is , the people will warn the poster. If you look at how many section of post there is abou avatar, You should seee there is about 110. People had probably diccussed all the idea. Some of the post is fill up with like couple pages. Most people dont wana read long post. So when you wana ask something specific in that post, almost no one going to answer you. So , somtime (like this one) people do need to make another post, so they will get their question answer the way they wanted.

So, dont mention your diccionary anymore (it pin on the front page, we all know) Hand off the reply buttom unless you got something on topic to say.

I would also like to add that all these charaters, minus Aang really, grew up in heavy war. In order to survive in such demanding times one tends to have to grow up a little bit sooner. Take Sokka for example, we see early on that Sokka as a child maybe 6 or younger wanted to go to war with his father, and seemed knowledable enough to fight minorly.

Azula and Zuko both grew up on the offensive, knowing how to attack and hit key points, and as mentioned in an earlier post, being prince and princess of the most powerful nation in the Avatar world means they too need to be able to lead properly. Zuko was probably about 10 when he snuck in on his fathers council if the ages are accurate, and my estimation of time lapse in the series is decent.

It makes perfect sense to me.

After all with the wars in the world right now, children are more accutly aware of the world then they ever would have been when I was in grade school.
