Well we all love Avatar but Aang is learning a new bending skill each season so 3 seasons and he has learned all the bending skills. So when he gets the skills down packed he is going to defeat the fire lord buy the end of the summer. Has anyone else thought about this?

No one really knows for sure but the thrid season probably will be the last.
I hope they dedicate the third season on purely mastering firebending and the fourth season on purely destroying the evil Fire Lord.
I doubt that will happen though.

Well they've currently shown 38 out of 60 episodes for their production. If each series is 20 episodes, the next season is their projected "last" season. Although, that doesn't mean that there can't be spin offs ... depending on what happens at the end of next season.

You can't even say probably. No one knows and there's no use trying to guess whether it will be the last or not. There have been talks with the creators about extending it, but no one knows right now (maybe not even the creators) whether a 4th season or possibly beyond it will happen. We'll know early next year though if there is one, as Nick usually announces to the staff within the first half of the new year.

If they do extend it. I hope they don't ruin the series by stretching it out too much.
I still want it to last long though.

I will have to agree that it will all depend on the last episode of the 3rd season.?? There are many possibilities for the show to carry on.?? In other threads I have said this and it still poses to be true in my eyes unless something from the writers throws it off.?? Aang is the last Airbender and therefore his people need to be revived for the balance.?? So that is one thing they are going to have to tie up if they are finishing the show in the 3rd season.?? Then there is the possibility of Zuko being the FL.?? What if he doesn't get it??? What if Azula becomes the FL????? Then season 4 is going to become a fight against her.?? However in tonight's episode it may be a possibility that Azula is taken down too.?? I think at this point is best to concentrate on the here and now and let the writers handle the next season.?? That way we have a better understanding of where the story is going.??

    Im sorta torn...
one part of me really enjoys Avatar more than any other animated show on the air right now and wants to see go on as long as it can.

but the logical part of me knows that if the creators are forced to extend the series beyond their origional ideas there is a high chance that the quality will take a nose dive

I'd be surprised if it weren't longer to be honest.?? This is one of the better nicktoons, aside from the ever popular Spongebob, so I can just see nick trying to get the creators to extend it for one more season.??

Yeah I hope they don't make any more episodes after the 3rd season ends. Shows that go on for along time tend not to have an actual ending. (meaning they stop production before they give the show a real ending. They just leave off at a cliff hanger) However, the idea of a spinoff like a new adventure begins like 100 years later or something would be cool.

i think that avatar will go on, but with different writers and in different studios. the quality probably will go down,

unless nick gives avatar to a different network, or hires us to do it.

that would be kool if they ask Avatar fans for episode ideas...however i hope they pick the most logic one

Yes, it would be cool, however they would have some serious issues with shipping. It would still be awesome if they listened to our ideas, though.

It kind of hurts to say this, but I know it's correct.

Avatar should just end after 60 eps. No doubt about it. No spinoffs, no extra seasons, just end it awesomely, and end it.

I second what was just said above me. There are shows that were extended from what was orignally wanted. They sucked after the extention. If a show goes away from the initial plot or idea it tends to suck. For example, Teen Titans. I really liked the show and they said the show would be cancelled after season five. There was suppose to be only 3 or 4 seasons. I really didn't like the 5th season that much anyway. It was said that Teen Titans was a cow and milked for all it was worth. Sucked dry basically. So it was cancelled. Another thing is like Naruto. In Japanese we are in the oh so sucky fillers. The creator did this because the anime was catching up to the manga and he was afraid if it went past his manga, it would lose the initial plot and thus be sucky. I really don't want Avatar to be a cow show too.

Well I thought they were only going to make 60 episodes, because I got told that when the first episode came out, and once he destroys the firelord, but maybe a new firelord will come, and new stuff will happen, who knows.

oh man, when i forst read the title of the thread, i thougth that you were referring that this season finale today, would be the last episodes, and after that they would stop making episodes....man, ur scared me a little bit. im glad everyone thinks that the 3rd season is a shoe-in for being aired

but hopefully they end after season three, cause if they dont it would ruin the show; integrity
