Think those first two post summed it all up. And even though it probably was a goof (or whatever ya call it),??what's to say he didn't have another, I mean that machete basically came out of nowhere.

Oh God, don't waste your time. It's a show, and an animated show at that, nothings going to be perfect. You can either let it go and enjoy the show (verse...oi )or you can drive yourself insane with details.

I guess the creators wanted the comet to be made of fire. I think its acceptable since this is a fictional world completely different than ours.
Yes, since when can people manipulate elements, since when are ostrich horses real, so its all fair game. So now in the Avatar world, comets are made of fire, or at least give firebenders super strength.

It's just like the Navy Seals with the Dai Li...you have to have the right stuff to be a Seal...I'm more than certain you have to be just a flat out elite Earthbender to be in the Dai Li to begin with in order to properly use those rock gloves and cling to vertical surfaces(they're the only Earthbenders to ever do that)
some of the wrestlers during "the blind bandit" episode could.

This one weirded me out. How did Toph manage to hit a guy midair during "the Blind Bandit"? Her ears are good, but likely not that good. Her lack of knowing where stuff is in midair is made fun of, a lot.
