i hate that its live action but i do want to see it. i only have a few concerns 1. the actors have to look like the characters which is the most important part of the movie 2. realistic breath taking backgrounds cause the show has it. 3. the martial arts they better be good.
Breath taking backgrounds = gettable Actors that look like the characters = gettable Martial artists that look like the characters = ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE The thing is, the main fire benders and Aang have to be martial artists... If the form of their attacks sucks, no amount of CGI will make it look good. Earth bending (Hung Gar) can kind of sort of be taught since the forms themselves are simple and the water bending usually isn't close range either. Actually, since the Aang character has to be light it won't be too bad if they have him on strings all the time, but when you get to Book 2/3 Azula and Zuko (or even Zuko v. Zhao) you can't just take some pretty boy and expect him to handle it. The Jet part is hard too, I train in Martial Arts (with weapons) and look like a tanner Jet, but I'm a little short for the part. I'd make a good stunt double, but there are so many up close face shots then switches would hard to fake between a double and the actor. (summary: They need acrobatic actors at the very least)
They will most likely need older actors too. I dont see a 12 year old learning everything that the character Aang needs to know.

I think that it would be better if they had a 12 year old for the first movie, to portray Aang's (for lack of a better word) innocence after comng out of the iceberg. Watching the first few episodes again, you see that his personality has really evolved throughout the series. So basically what I'm saying is that if they get a young actor (12) to start with, he'll be around 15 during the third movie, which would fit better with his evolution through the series. On the other hand, an older actor (15?) would be 18 or 19 by the end, and there's no way we're gonna see a 19 year old Aang.

someone doesnt HAVE to be twelve to play aang. there are many actors that are like 21 and they have roles that play as high school students. that chinese kid whose rumored to be considered for aang's role, i read he was like 15.

and remember, the writers, producers or whom ever is doing the screenplay, may tweak the story line a bit rather than what we expect of on the original series, just to keep it more interesting. i read that on other online articles that the movie may mainly take place in the nothern water tribe.

If you think that every character cast will be asian you don't know how Hollywood operates. Not to mention of all these "asian" characters in the show a large majority are all voiced by people non-asian people. Not to mention if you call this guy asian, then there's no need for further discussion...
    That guy's just blackinese.
I have family members that are that dark. Southeast Asian, baby!
Yeah the voice of Aang is an American not an Asian

Age is more than likely going to be downplayed in the movies. Don't forget, they're planning to make 3 of them over the course of the next 6 years, while the story takes place within a year. The audience would notice the big difference in the character's ages if they start out too young.

I don't think it'd be good to hire a 12 year old, but a 15 year old that could pass as a 12 year old. After all, by the time the movies are done, the 12 year old will have gone through puberty, gaining god knows how many inches of height.

just because the movies will take 6 years to come out doesnt mean there are going to be filmin for 6 years. what they will do is probly like what lord of the rings did is to basically nevre stop filming until its over, so when the first movie came out, mnight might be filmin the end of sozins comet! so we wont see aang as a person being developed or being 21 when the thrid movie comes out.

Who knows if these actors will look east asian, or caucasion.

Hollywood will tryn exclude any minority from the lead and have a caucasion looking person.

But even from the show, the looks of characters are questionable. Obviously, the setting is based on many different asian cultures. But most of the main characters do not look distincly white or east asian or south east asian, the caracatured faces are basically anime imitations.

And obviously, the voice actors dont have to be asian. This is an american tv show.

With Aang at least, i think he sould be asian.

LotR was greenlit to do all 3 movies at once. Avatar on the otherhand, has only been given the thumbs up for the 1st film. The powers that be will decide if the remaining 2 get made depending on how the 1st does. Sort of like PotC.

A caucasian person imitating Iroh's Asian accent would look and sound very unusual, now that I think of it.
