It dosn't seem like age has a whole lot to do with how good they are at bending. Obviously if your older you have had more experience, but I think bending is either your good or your not. Look at how many good benders are young: Aang (ofcourse he's the Avatar), Toph, Katara is ok, and I bet Bumi was good when he was young.

ok to start the question/answer thing back up
when did sokka get his boomerang back?
he lost it in one of the episodes (i cant remember which one)
but he had it in bitter work.....
He lost it and got it back in Avatar day. During the fight sequence at the end a Yu-Yan archer shot off Sokka's hat and the arrow landed in the explosive arsenal of another of the fire nation attackers and then the explosives went off and a bag with his boomerang landed in front of Sokka.
