Tht's the point of the show!

    Air Water Earth Fire

And if the Avatar is from another nation, then when they get to fire they start over. Jeong Jeong wouldn't teach Aang because he was yet to master water and earth!

You have to be born with it. Remember the twins in the fortuneteller?
One was a bender but the other wasn't. If they could LEARN how to bend then they would both be benders.
See why do I know something like that but i didn't know about the elements being learned in order?!

Has there ever been a bender born in a different nation not to his or her element? Example: Can a child be a firebender and have been born in the Earth Kingdom and his/her parents are earthbenders or nonbenders? And has there been mixed marriages shown in the series, like a waterbender and an earthbender?

i dont think thats possible for someone to be born in a different nation. Their bending powers were given to benders by different things. The ocean, water benders.
    The sun, fire benders.
    Badger molse, earth benders.
Chuck Norris, air benders. I think bending has alot to do with your genes.

I remember a topic awhile back that asked where airbenders came from. FLYING BISONS! Thats why airbenders have the same arrow as the flying bison. Earth benders learned earthbending from badger moles. Think about it! Im watching the fury of aang when this thought occured.

That's a really good idea. I think that that is probably the answer. I have always wonderd who taught the airbenders. It sounds good to me, anyway.

Okay, here's one. In The Furry of Aang, some of the sandbenders have masks over their eyes. However those in the group that came across them when they hat the sand glider didn't. Is this signifigant?

The masks were probably part of their garments, like stitched in, and could be tucked away when not in use. A mask is a good safety idea because of all the flying sand and all the sunlight that reflects off the sand.

I've just started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and I love it.

What I was wondering was why does Katara have to have water nearby to be able to bend but the firebenders just make it? I'm guessing it's because they are just stronger...

It's the same for all bending disciplines, except Firebending. For airbending, you need air (obviously, though, that's always around because if there was no air there would no human beings), for waterbending, you need water, and for earthbending, you need earth. But firebenders can just create fire. Iroh said fire comes from the breath. They also draw a lot of power from the sun. The sun is their ultimate power source, but they are the only ones who can actually create their element. Weird...

Well, if they all had to carry around torches to get anything done, it would seriously limit their effectiveness.

And then it would just seem silly for them to be winning.

That's a good question, and I don't know if there is an "official" answer. I have two therories though:

    1. This is just my opinion but, since firebending comes from the breath being turned into energy, and then the energy being pushed out of the body, they are able to create it by using their own energy. Waterbending, on the other hand, is about the flow and the motions, the push and pull; so it dosn't come from the body like firebending. I hope that makes sense.

    2. This one isn't as good of an answer, and I don't actually think it is right. Another reason I thought of was that since fire is just light and heat, that possibly firebenders just collect the light and heat near them and turn it into the begining spark, and then use that to begin thier bending. Although I don't like this explaination as much as my first.

I hope that helped, and welcome to Avatar. It's great.
