or should i say "pheonix king" i must say i was a bit disappointed with his character development. from the beginning they made him seem like the bad man he is always in shadows and never showing his face only hearing his icy voice and seeing his actions. even in zuko's hope when his face was already revealed they did well protraying him. but once the show progressed i felt like they lost that of him. in teh end he didnt seem like as scary dude as they made him seem in the beginning. and idk i must say when he finally faced aang i expecting a totally different dialogue i think azula topped him on that. in fact COMBUSTION MAN looks more threatening than he did. just my opinion. whats yours? did the pheonix king reach your expectations?

Mark Hamil does the best villains, so yea he reached my expectations. I think others had to high expectations of him, he's not one of words, he's just there to kill Aang, burn down the known world and build a new one from that.

He single handedly burned part of a mountain range and a good part of a continent with no remorse for anybody living in the area, that in my mind puts him on my top 10 villians list

If you compare Ozai's performance to Iroh's during the comet, Ozai definitely comes out on top. Even with the power of the comet, Iroh had to concentrate hard in order to create just one super fireblast that was powerful enough to smash through the wall of Ba Sing Se. Ozai on the other was able to create three such giant fireblasts, all of which were bigger than the one Iroh made, and Ozai did it without looking like he was even trying, not mention while he was flying through the air, desperatly trying to get away from Aang. Not only did Ozai produce the biggest, most powerful lightning bolts of anyone, he also produced them the fastest, and once again while he was flying through the air. His ease at fying, not to mention his ability to pull of amazing firebending moves while doing so, demonstrated incredible control over his firebending. He was relentless, transitioning from flying to running and jumping across pillars of rock to pounding those rocks to pieces without so much as breaking stride. And to top it all off, he has demonstrated that he has no morals, no mercy, nothing but contempt for those who cannot match his endless, relentless, will towards eveil and destruction. Ozai was a raaging, unstoppable forest fire personified, a force of nature, death itself. The only way that he could truly be stopped in the end, and the war that he symbolized with him, was put an end to the death and destruction that Ozai lived and breathed, taking away the firebnding that was the source of his relentless energy and will, forcing him to play another game, one that he could not play so well.

In short, Ozai pwned. Iroh admitted it outright - he was not at all sure that he would ever be a match for Ozai.

That's because he was already defeated...Aang alrady took his bending away..he was no longer powerful because the source of his power and ferocity was his bending, and Aang took it all away.

Ozai seemed pretty intimidating until he showed his face.He seems scrawnier in season 3 than the previous ones.Ozai seemed large and burly in the shadows. Now he looks almost skinny. He went from being an evil entity in the shadows to a pathetic little phsyco like Azula.Yes Azula was an evil genius but was trully pathetic on the inside.

    Pathetic?!!! PATHETIC???!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call Ozai and Azula crazy, evil and beyond redemption if you wish, but never pathetic (if Azula was pathetic, then what does that make Zuko, who she managed to beat again).

If you can call a guy capable of burning down half the world pathetic, I really don't know what will please you. Ozai easily trumped Iroh as a bender, and I doubt anyone here will call iroh (or Zuko) pathetic.

Ozai's trick was the relentless will and energy for death and destruction that he drew from his twisted firebending. Once the firebnding was gone, so was all his power, all his will, drive, and energy.

i thought he was very well portrayed. i was impressed by the strength of his character. ozai's a lot of things, but he's no hypocrite, and he's certainly no coward. he didn't do the stareotypical villain "begging for mercy" deal when he was beaten, he didn't take any cheap shots, and he never let go of his own ideal of what honor is. even without his bending, there's an unusual strength to his character in the end.
