Well I think they are still alive off somewhere...perhaps just travelling in a remote region or in clouds or somewhere they can't be found. B/C if they were completely gone Aang would be the last airbending avatar (as who would train him in another life?).

Even if there is not a group of nomads somewhere, I think some nomads must have survived as some could have escaped, been babies/children (& thus probably not killed), or been off on their own away from the group (like Aang, but not frozen) & then could have had children. Thus the culture could have died from lack of leaders who hold the majority of the traditions--the monks, but some "nomads", the actual people with the ability to bend could have survived, but not know HOW to bend (as might lose skills over time & have no one to teach them). Then Aang could find them eventually & somehow teach them, so technically he would be the last AirBENDER as his (surviving)people would not know how to bend (as Aang did not know how to bend water, earth, & fire originally except in a trance). Thus if Aang taught them there would be somebody to teach a new airbending avatar, the next time in the cycle...

Maybe when Aang dies, he'll teach airbending to the next avatar by showing him the moves in visions.

But then who would teach the next Avatar after that? & Avatar Roku never taught Aang bending...and from what I've seen, the visions are short & not easy to just get. I don't think the Avatar could just learn bending from visions (otherwise Aang could have been saved alot of troblem...).

KilalaRose... you wouldn't happen to be a voice actor for the Avatar show, would you?

ok there are 4 temples, 2 for men 2 for women. we have seen the 2men temples.

one of the women's teples the Western Air Temple is the closest to the fire nation therefore its very possible it was the first one to be destroid. But the Eastern Air Temple is the one farther to the fire nation, it's Malu the Ghost Witch's home and its highly possible that it still has benders on it.

Besides why only the american version of avatar is called "the last Airbender"?? Perhaps the creators are planing to show airbenders but they started planing this after the american title was shown!!
The airbenders are NOMADS!! they live everywhere the temples are only thir traning places. so they can adapt and survive easily. How hard could it be for an airbender to escape to Ba-sing-se??
    They are still alive.

The perception in the avatar world is that there are no more airbenders. That is sufficient to make the title true.

Whether or not he is the last airbender is up to the writers. If they decide that there are other airbenders alive, the title is not betrayed.
