Literatures are stories made by SBC users that do not relate to SpongeBob Squarepants, like Spin-Offs do. They share a board with Spin-Offs called SpongeBob's Library. Literatures are most popular for being about ensemble casts of SBC users in a different world or setting (And Then There Were Less, SBC Parallel Universe, etc). Literatures can either be original stories or non-SpongeBob related fanfics. Throughout SBC's history, literatures have intertwined heavily with spin-Off culture, with the lines between the two often being blurred (Down Under, CDCB's Bikini Bottom Adventures, Underwater Survivor: SBC Style, etc). In recent years, the SBC literature genre has been phased out in favor of general non-SpongeBob related works. As of 2023, SBC no longer officially uses the "literature" terminology, and instead goes for generally calling works "stories" or "fanfiction." The term will still be kept on pages for works that once identified as such.
