You heard right! Total Drama Island has been nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Animated Program or Series. For anyone (yes even me) who's in the US and hasn't heard of the Geminis, that's basically the Canadian Emmy! This is incredible. Considering they're up against Chop Socky Chooks and Storm Hawks, I think they have a good chance!

According to 'kipedia, the Geminis will air in October so just keep an eye open HANKL!

Considering how popular TDI is in America...I'm pretty sure it'll win. Storm Hawks, Chop Socky Chooks, and TDI are all on Cartoon Network. TDI is obviously the most popular of the three. As for the other two Canadian nominees, Ruby Gloom and Leon in Wintertime, I can't say much. They don't show them in America, but it seems like the competition is with Ruby Gloom.

I would love them to win and they probably will! But if the decide based on TV.com ratings then TDI will be second as storm hawks I think has better ratings...

The Geminis are only about shows that are from Canada. All the shows are from Canada but just shown on CN.

I think that unless they let users of TV.com choose the winners, then TDI will have it in the bag. There is NO WAY that Storm Hawks outdoes this, animationwise or scriptwise.

I'm not familiar with how the Geminis are decided. Do they look for popularity, animation technique, or script quality?

If I recall correctly, Geminis are voted on in a similar way to the Emmys...people in the Canadian entertainment industry casting their votes for the best in a category and popularity does NOT mean wins necessarily.

Well, I've seen nominations in the past for quality shows that were critically successful and also nominated shows that were canceled due to low ratings before the awards were presented.

Getting the show nominated for an award will, at the very least, make the show easier to sell in foreign markets.
