You all know this show was based on Rocko's Modern Life? Only it's Under Sea.

Did anyone know this show is based on Rocko's Modern Life except that it's under water and SpongeBob acts childish? There are more similarities, thanks to the man we love, Stephen Hillenburg!

Yeah, I have a SpongeBob book which actually says that Mr. Hillenberg worked on Rocko's Modern Life and had an idea for them to go underwater, but one of his friends said, "No, that could be YOUR show!" That gave Steve an idea and he created SpongeBoy, but then turned him into SpongeBob!

I may have heard that somewhere before...even though "Rocko's Modern Life" is gone, it still lives on in SpongeBob!

Rocko turned into a stupid show called Camp Lazlo(Well stupid to everyone else). But SpongeBob DOES remind me of Rocko. Rocko is one of my favorite old Nick shows. I am still glad we have a few good shows left on Nick.

I always found some similarities between the two shows, and I know Stephen got his start on Rocko, it's pretty cool because that was one of my favorite Nicktoons!

RML isn't very good imo, but i loved Camp Lazlo. Tom did really good voicing Lumpus and Slinkman, Mr.Lawrence also did good.

Rocko's Modern Life was good show, so was Camp Lazlo. And Rocko's Modern Life had hidden jokes. Like they ate at a restaurant called "Chokey Chicken". Do you get the joke?

But later on in the show they renamed it Chewy Chicken.

Err... I found Rocko's Modern Life to be a funny 90's cartoon and I consider it to be one of my favorite poorly drawn cartoons (next to Ed Edd N'Eddy). But that's just me.

Yeah, I can totally notice the similarities. Just look at Patrick and compare him to Heffer. You'll know what I mean.

I never noticed that before, but the pet, angry neighbor, and the chubby friend are pretty similar to Rocko.

Well, it's not really based on Rocko's Modern Life. Steve Hillenburg just started off working on the show. Other than that, his idea for SpongeBob is 100% original.

Very true. I love that SpongeBob is one of the cartoons with an original plot out there too. Unlike some shows. I'm looking at you Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, King of the Hill, and countless other live action shows. Wow! I didn't realize how similar FOX's line up was.

You know, Rocko's Modern Life characters (including Rocko) were going to appear in the SpongeBob Movie in 2004, but for some reason, that scene never saw the light of day. I kinda wanted that to happen though.

The only place I heard that from was in a book that knows all about Nicktoons called, "Nicktoons of All Times", and in a chapter called "SpongeBob & Rocko", it said that there, and it also said that on the Rocko section of Nickelodeon wiki.
