I was watching the Looney Tunes marathon on CN today, and there was one episode where Bugs and Daffy are both in a show and no matter what Daffy does, the audience doesn't cheer for him, they cheer for Bugs. Even when Bugs just sticks his head out the curtain, they cheer. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

That's right, Spongebob ripped off the Looney Tunes in the episode "Culture Shock"! WTF?!

Sorry, but the shows' jokes are sometimes based on the old cartoons according to Square Roots(such as Popeye). Sorry for bursting your bubble back there.

^Yes, I think Stephen said that the crew does look for things from old cartoons to put in the show...they're just not always obvious. There's no reason to get mad over that though...SpongeBob is uniquely original compared to all the TV shows that make really crappy spoofs of other TV shows.

A lot of cartoons use insperation from old school cartoons. SpongeBob isn't the only one out there who does that. No need to get mad about it.

I could understand using something as inspiration, but there's a difference between referencing something and completely ripping it off.

Maybe they didn't know? Besides, that particular joke is pretty generic, I'm more than sure that I've seen it in other shows, not just SpongeBob and Looney Tunes

Yeah, I guess that's true. I guess this wasn't really the thing to make a forum about, I was just kind of upset about SBSP ripping off one of the best cartoons ever. Now that I think about it, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Don't worry. Me being a devoted Disney fan, I know that most of the time they base some of their movies on something else, like a fairy tale. I never make a big deal out of it, though and I love their work. Try not to take these things to heart. BTW I like Loony Tunes, too. Absolutely love "Duck Amuck" (Basically I love it when cartoons break the fourth wall. One of the mmany things I love about SB.)

It could have been a hommage; perhaps the creators are fans of Loony Toons.

There's nothing wrong with shows stealing jokes or ideas from other popular shows, as long as they put some originality into it. Maybe they included the joke specifically to please Looney Tunes fans.

Plus, there are also some shows that even steal jokes from SpongeBob. There was an episode of Jimmy Neutron where Sheen repeats over and over, "And the next day" and then calls Jimmy up to continue repeating it. Just like what Mr. Krabs did once with Plankton.

Exactly. A lot of shows steal from each other, but they add their own originality. Otherwise it just wouldn't be at all funny or anything. But in this case, no one knew the reference {at least I didn't}, so I didn't care.

And that's what makes cartoons, cartoons. What would SpongeBob be without this stuff?

True and not all of the ideas for gags (like some in CWN) were based off of other programs

No offense but you sound like it is totally wrong and immoral to have a similar joke. A lot of shows do this, as already mentioned.

It's like a point South Park once made in the episode "Simpsons Already Did it". There's been so many TV shows, movies and other forms of references that have existed that it's impossible to make a show without using jokes that have already been used.

LOL they honestly made an entire SP episode relying almost entirely on cartoon cliches? So glad I don't watch Adult Swim.

SpongeSeb you took the words out of my mouth. Originality is something very hard to do on television now a days, there have been SO many jokes made on television now a days it's almost impossible for a joke not to be similar to one made on another show.
